Handy Person - Apprentice – Kido Join our friendly and collaborative property team at Kido. As a Handy Person Apprentice, you will report to the Facilities Coordinator, build strong relationships with nursery management teams and support the safe, functional and welcoming environment of our nurseries. We’re looking for a dedicated Handy Person – Apprentice to join our property team and gain practical skills across carpentry, plumbing, basic electrical work, painting and general maintenance while completing a Level 2 apprenticeship. Key Responsibilities Assist in general repair and maintenance tasks, including basic carpentry, plumbing, painting and minor electrical work. Carry out routine inspections of facilities, equipment and property to identify maintenance needs. Support senior staff in diagnosing issues and determining appropriate repair methods. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of tools and equipment. Help with the installation of fixtures, fittings and equipment as required. Load, unload and transport materials or tools to job sites. Follow safety procedures and comply with workplace health and safety regulations. Maintain accurate notes and documentation of completed tasks. Provide excellent customer service and communicate professionally with clients, tenants and team members. Complete your Property Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship alongside daily duties. Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Eligibility and training: At least 16 years old. Lived in the UK for over three years. GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, grade 4/C or higher; if not, applicant may be accepted if willing to complete Functional Skills English and Maths. The apprenticeship runs for 24 months with an end‑point assessment, and includes 20 % off‑the‑job training. Preferred background: previous experience in construction, facilities, or a similar trade (even informally). Basic knowledge of occupational health and safety practices and an interest in pursuing trade certifications or specialist skills (e.g., carpentry). What You Will Bring A positive attitude, strong willingness to learn and ability to follow guidance. A basic understanding of tools, equipment and everyday maintenance tasks plus enthusiasm to learn. Good problem‑solving skills and attention to detail. Comfortable with hands‑on work, including lifting, carrying, climbing ladders and working in different environments. Reliable, punctual, able to work independently and as part of a supportive team. An entrepreneurial mindset with initiative and resilience. Great communication skills and ability to manage multiple priorities calmly. A flexible, positive attitude. Full UK driving licence and own vehicle for travel across London.
