Why PlayStation? PlayStation isn’t just the Best Place to Play — it’s also the Best Place to Work. Today, we’re recognized as a global leader in entertainment producing the PlayStation family of products and services including PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®VR, PlayStation®Plus, acclaimed PlayStation software titles from PlayStation Studios, and more. PlayStation also strives to create an inclusive environment that empowers employees and embraces diversity. We welcome and encourage everyone who has a passion and curiosity for innovation, technology, and play to explore our open positions and join our growing global team. The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Group Corporation. Data Center Electrical Engineer Sony Interactive Entertainment is seeking a Data Center Electrical Engineer to join the Global Developer Future Technology Group (GDFT), the organisation responsible for building and operating the data centre infrastructure that powers PlayStation’s Cloud Gaming, Broadcast, and Developer Platform services worldwide. Our leased data centres host critical workloads, ranging from real‑time game streaming to content distribution, developer build systems, and testing environments. Working with the Manager, Data Center Technical Services, the Electrical Specialist will be the domain expert for power within SIE’s leased data centre white space. The role is responsible for designing and reviewing electrical distribution from provider equipment down to the rack level, ensuring that installations are safe, efficient, and resilient — including under failure scenarios. The specialist will also provide technical consultancy across the organisation, contribute to due diligence efforts, and act as an escalation point during incidents. Responsibilities Electrical Design Ownership – Develop and review electrical designs for white space fit‑outs, including distribution from provider demarcation points to racks, panel boards, PDUs, and cabling. Capacity & Resilience Assurance – Ensure electrical infrastructure is designed to avoid overloads under normal and failure conditions, supporting safe and resilient operations. Design Packages – Produce and review technical specifications and design packages for contractors to install electrical systems, working closely with Operations and other SMEs. Standards Development – Contribute to the development and maintenance of SIE’s data centre technical standards, with a focus on electrical systems within leased environments. Upstream Awareness – Maintain a clear and comprehensive understanding of upstream provider M&E infrastructure (Tx, generators, switchgear, UPS) to ensure integration with SIE’s white space. Engineering Support – Partner with internal engineering teams working on next‑generation PlayStation hardware to ensure new designs are supported by appropriate power infrastructure. Internal Consultancy – Advise product, engineering, and operations teams on electrical requirements during planning, design, and deployment. Technical Audit & Compliance – Participate in technical audits and compliance reviews, assessing electrical installations against SIE standards and vendor obligations. Due Diligence Support – Provide electrical expertise during site selection and due diligence processes, evaluating suitability for current and future workloads. Incident Support – Act as a subject matter escalation point for Operations during major incidents, providing electrical expertise to support resolution. Knowledge & Documentation – Document electrical designs, lessons learned, and standard methodologies, ensuring knowledge is shared across the Technical Services team. Sustainability & Efficiency – Ensure electrical designs incorporate energy efficiency and sustainability considerations, in line with corporate objectives. Cross‑team Collaboration – Work closely with mechanical SMEs, Technical Services colleagues, Operations, and external vendors to deliver consistent, standards‑based outcomes. What We’re Looking For 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering within data centres or critical infrastructure environments. Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems in data centres, including panelboards, PDUs, static transfer switches (STS), and rack‑level power design. Ability to model and assess electrical load, redundancy, and failure scenarios to ensure safe and resilient operation. Experience producing and reviewing design packages for contractor execution, including single line diagrams and technical specifications. Familiarity with upstream M&E systems (UPS, switchgear, generators, cooling plants) and how they interact with white space power distribution. Practical understanding of data centre fit‑outs, capacity management, and operational constraints in leased facilities. Experience contributing to technical standards, audits, and due diligence processes. Strong problem‑solving skills and calmness under pressure, with experience supporting major incident response. Excellent communication and collaborator management skills, able to influence technical and non‑technical audiences. Professional registration or certification in electrical engineering (e.g., CEng, IEng, PE) or equivalent experience and industry certifications in design and installation (e.g., Uptime Institute, CNet, BICSI etc).
