Treating Tobacco Dependency Clinical Nurse Specialist North Bristol NHS Trust is looking for an exceptional Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our Tobacco Dependency Service across North Bristol and UHBW. Job Overview As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will support the inpatient service, manage staff, develop guidelines, facilitate training, and ensure the delivery of evidence‑based smoking cessation care. Main Duties Support the day‑to‑day management of the tobacco dependency service. Line‑manage TTD advisors at BRI and Weston, travelling across sites as required. Work collaboratively with the TTD team at NBT, including the TTD lead and pharmacist. Develop guidelines and policies to support the service. Identify and promote best practice by prescribing NRT and delivering training to support teams. Provide routine reporting and communications for boards and wider system plans. Ensure IT data systems capture and report on smoking cessation interventions. Ensure availability of nicotine replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy for all patients who smoke. Develop and deliver training programmes for frontline staff on tobacco dependence treatment, including VBA training. Support inpatient teams and TTD advisors to remove barriers to accessing medication and care. Person Specification Education / Training / Qualifications Current NMC registration. Degree in Adult Nursing. Desirable: Smoking cessation adviser – intermediate level qualification or willingness to undertake. Work Experience 3 years experience as a Band 5 Staff Nurse. Ability to work independently. Experience working with multidisciplinary teams. Experience providing help, support and/or counselling one‑to‑one or in group settings. Desirable: Experience of providing smoking cessation support. Desirable: Experience of developing and delivering successful health promotion interventions. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Good understanding of evidence‑based practice in smoking cessation. Understanding of human behaviour for healthy lifestyle changes and decisions. Assertive and confident approach to managing at this level. Flexible and adaptable in a changing environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to handle challenging situations. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Accurate record‑keeping. Desirable: NCSCT smoking cessation training. Desirable: Basic understanding of audit and evaluation. Personal Qualities / Special Circumstances Ability to prioritise and work on own initiative and as an effective team member. Innovative and imaginative. Ability to build rapport quickly and disseminate advice non‑judgementally. Ability to handle difficult/sensitive situations. Able to work within a diverse community of patients and professionals. Ability to work flexibly to meet the programme needs. Desirable: Enthusiastic and committed to the Smokefree agenda.
