Post CCT in Emergency Medicine The closing date is 04 December 2025 The successful candidate will work as part of the experienced ED team and will have the responsibilities similar to that of the senior registrar (approx. ST6 level) with a focus on developing skills and behaviours for beginning a Consultant post in Emergency Medicine. The role will have a 75% clinical and 25% non‑clinical split to allow the candidate to get involved with quality and safety meetings, quality improvement projects, education and own reflection/CPD. We are looking for someone who will demonstrate a positive attitude and will work well within a team, while also having the ability to use their initiative. The Emergency department is a very fast paced, busy environment so the ideal candidate should be able to work under pressure with the support of their peers. Job responsibilities As a Post CCT fellow, you will have the opportunity to work alongside experts in one of the busiest emergency departments in the UK. The Leicester Royal Infirmary has the only Emergency Department serving the city of Leicester and the counties of Leicestershire and Rutland and is one of the busiest in the country, treating over 230,000 new patients, a quarter of whom are children. The ED incorporates: 32 bay Majors area Injuries area with 10 cubicles Separate Paediatric ED with 12 rooms and 8 bays Emergency Frailty Unit Clinical (75%) Working in the Emergency Department as a senior decision maker (ST6 level) providing support to the medical team. Ensure standards are met to ensure a safe department are met at all times. Lead in areas to ensure clinical safety and efficient decision making. Experience in running the department with support of nominated supervisor. Provide visible leadership on the shopfloor. Non Clinical (25%) Spend time completing Consultant of the day tasks. Participate in patient safety investigations, complaints and requests for case reviews. Support formal education programmes within the department. Identify and lead a service improvement project that will benefit the department priority. Attend Departmental meetings alongside Consultant. Person Specification Training & Qualifications Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's Values and Behaviours. CCT (or within 6 months of expected achievement including via CESR route) in Emergency Medicine. Instructor in life support courses. Experience 3 years of higher Emergency Medicine training or equivalent – to be able to work at an appropriate level but with recourse to senior advice when necessary, documented competencies in Emergency Medicine. Communication and Relationship Skills Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that is adequate to enable effective communication with patients and colleagues. Clarity of communication and organisation. To be empathic and sensitive. Motivation Personal integrity and reliability. Willingness to learn new skills. Evidence of professional team working. Research and Audit Evidence of adequate CME if appropriate. Understanding of Audit principles. Evidence of personal experience of audit. Up to date – Good Clinical Practice. Management Understanding of the NHS, its strategy and current issues pertinent to Emergency Medicine. Able to follow UHL policies and guidance.
