This is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. The post holder will be responsible for all work‑site supervision tasks, ensuring that all tasks are carried out to the best of their ability. The role involves driving service vehicles, supervising manual projects in public spaces and contributing to community reparation. Responsibilities Conduct Pre‑Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions. Lead a daily ‘tool box’ talk to brief service users on task, safety and motivation. Follow work directions within the project placement file. Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed and risk assessments are maintained. Provide appropriate tools, equipment and supplies and supervise their safe use. Carry out dynamic risk assessments to identify and manage hazards. Use pro‑social and motivational techniques to ensure disciplined, well‑behaved work completion. Monitor attendance of service users and promote successful completions. Maintain all service users’ records in the case management system accurately and timely. Support accredited training assessments for selected service users. Promote Community Payback with colleagues, external agencies, sentencers and the public. Qualifications & Requirements Full UK Manual Driving Licence required (no automatic licence). Experience of practical skills; UK Manual Driving Licence – Category D1 Minibus. Evidence of commitment to teamwork and effective interpersonal supervisory skills. Problem‑solving experience within a workplace or similar environment. Knowledge of workplace safety, public protection and risk of harm. Basic knowledge of First Aid and willingness to undertake further training. Willingness to attain IOSH L3 or equivalent and other vocational assessment certificates (CAVA). Ability to model pro‑social attitudes and behaviour to service users. Good written communication skills and ability to influence. Commitment to equality and inclusion in line with PS policies. English proficiency (and Welsh where specified). Confidentiality and sensitivity to information handling. Working Pattern Typical hours up to 7 hours per day supervising a group at a Community Payback unpaid work placement. The role requires frequent weekend working; weekend days are paid at a higher rate. Occasional evenings may be required. Part‑time and flexible arrangements may be discussed. Benefits Annual Leave: 25 days on appointment, increasing to 30 days after five years' service plus public holidays. Pension: Covered by the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
