Description Are you experienced in foot and mobile surveillance in criminal investigations and keen to further develop your skills to safeguard vital resources for the people of Scotland? Social Security Scotland is looking for a specialist to conduct covert surveillance using foot and mobile tactics under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers (Scotland) Act 2000 (RIPSA). Your role will involve applying for and carrying out directed surveillance, documenting activities, and preserving evidence for potential criminal proceedings. You must hold a valid UK driving licence and be willing to undertake specialist driver training and additional surveillance training. The position requires flexibility, including out‑of‑hours work, weekends, public holidays, overnight stays, and travel across Scotland from the Glasgow base. Responsibilities Carry out static foot and mobile surveillance, maintain operational logs, and use covert recording equipment to gather evidence during authorised directed surveillance. Collaborate closely with fraud investigators and other stakeholders regarding covert activities under RIPSA. Submit relevant surveillance applications under RIPSA. Conduct risk assessments related to surveillance activity and manage Directed Surveillance Authorities. Assist in the preparation, briefing, and debriefing of surveillance operations. Manage storage, retention, and destruction of surveillance products in line with data protection policies. Collate all surveillance products to support investigations and related court proceedings. Perform other ad hoc duties relevant to the role. Qualifications Full UK driving licence (must have a valid licence and bring it to interview). Extensive operational experience in a surveillance team involved in criminal investigations, with knowledge of foot/mobile surveillance. Good working knowledge of RIPSA legislation and experience submitting surveillance applications. Essential Skills Food Safety, Suspicious Activity, Financial Crimes, Administrative Hearings, OFAC, SAR, Public Safety, Law Enforcement, Due Diligence, AML, Criminal History, Escalation, Procedures, Subpoenas. Working Pattern Standard hours are 35 hours per week with hybrid working. Expect 3–4 days per week at 220 High Street, Glasgow, and flexibility for Scotland‑wide travel, out‑of‑hours work, weekends, public holidays, and overnight stays. Security Checks Applicants must complete Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) and additional National Security Vetting clearance before appointment.
