Specialist Pharmacist – Critical Care | St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced, high‑calibre pharmacist with advanced, expert clinical knowledge and skills to lead the critical care team at St George’s Hospital. We are a provider of local services, a centre for specialist care and a world‑class teaching hospital. The critical care units at St George’s Hospital include General Intensive Care, Cardiothoracic Intensive Care and Neurosciences Intensive Care and accept tertiary referrals from within Southwest London and beyond. A new General Intensive Care Unit is under construction and the successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy service in this new facility. The post holder will be an experienced pharmacist with extensive critical care, leadership and management experience. Key Responsibilities To work as an advanced expert pharmacist within all areas of the critical care. To lead on the provision and development of the clinical pharmacy services including clinical risk and governance, finance, operations and research. To act as a role model providing education, training, and mentoring to staff within pharmacy and the specialty. To manage and develop a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, trainee pharmacists and students. In conjunction with the principal pharmacist, manage and implement services designed to improve the pharmaceutical care to patients and extend the boundaries of clinical practice. To progress service improvement initiatives through multi‑disciplinary working to ensure safe and timely provision of medicines. To participate in clinical audit and research, risk management and clinical guideline development. Deputise for the principal pharmacist and represent the team within the organisation and across the interface. The successful applicant will be able to manage multiple priorities and deliver against tight deadlines. You will have excellent communication skills and be an enthusiastic educator. The ability to work autonomously and with a high level of accountability is essential. You should possess a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent and have the relevant hospital pharmacy experience.
