We know that children looked after and care leavers often face unique challenges around emotional health and well‑being. To strengthen the support we provide, Bury Council has invested in creating two specialist Social Worker roles dedicated to this area. These roles are part of our commitment to delivering trauma‑informed, relationship‑based practice that helps young people build resilience and thrive. You will be part of an innovative approach where Social Workers work closely with a psychologist‑led team, ensuring that emotional health is at the heart of care planning. This means you’ll have access to expert guidance, reflective practice, and specialist training to enhance your skills and confidence in supporting children and young people. We are on an exciting journey in Bury and doing things differently. Social Workers are at the heart of this transformation, and we promise to support your learning and development every step of the way. We want the best talent to join us practitioners who can influence and shape the services we provide for children and young people. This role focuses on promoting and enhancing the emotional health and well‑being of Children Looked After and Care Leavers. You will deliver trauma‑informed, relationship‑based interventions that build resilience, self‑esteem, and coping strategies. Working closely with CAMHS, therapeutic services, and multi‑agency partners, you’ll make sure young people receive timely, coordinated support tailored to their needs. Your work will include: Building trusting relationships with children and young people to understand their emotional needs. Undertaking holistic assessments and contributing to care and pathway planning. Advocating for emotional and mental health needs within multi‑agency forums. Providing advice and training to carers and professionals on trauma‑informed care. Promoting emotional literacy and psychological safety across care settings. We put children and young people at the heart of everything we do and make sure our Social Workers have the support, training, and development they need to thrive. If you have experience in supporting the emotional health and well‑being of children in care and are a qualified Social Worker, we want to hear from you If you are passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people and want to grow your skills in a forward‑thinking authority, then this is the role for you. About Bury: The Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff to share this commitment. In line with safer recruitment, please ensure that your application/CV covers your full employment history and there is a reason noted for any gaps in employment. Successful candidates will be asked to provide relevant references for the past ten years and character references will not be accepted. Please note we are unable to support with sponsorship at this time. As a Corporate Parent, the work and services you deliver must consider our care‑experienced young people, promote their life chances, empower them to influence the policies, services, and decisions that affect them, champion their rights, and ensure they grow up in the best possible way.
