This position provides oversight for all retail product development, merchandising and inventory management across online, flagship and exhibition stores, and wholesale. The role is vital in shaping the Museum's retail growth trajectory with a focus on commercial sustainability and will report against an annual buying strategy, ensuring all retail decisions align with the NMA strategic priorities. Key responsibilities include analysing market trends, monitoring sales data, negotiating with suppliers for best pricing and terms, managing inventory, and maintaining strong relationships with vendors. This requires strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and commercial awareness skills, along with a keen eye for trends and customer preferences.The Retail Buyer also communicates and collaborates internally to build commercial capability across the Museum, as well as fostering relationships with external partners and stakeholders to identify and leverage opportunities for commercial growth.Key duties and accountabilitiesCoordinate the requirements for all retail product development, merchandising and inventory management for online, flagship and exhibition stores, and wholesale.Pitch new ideas for new product ranges to key stakeholders in the NMA, ensuring these align with the NMA strategic goals and retail strategy, ensuring sustainability, and ethical supply chains are compliant.Assist Manager, Retail in monitoring budgets, procurement activities, risk registers and contract administration, ensuring compliance with public sector and NMA frameworks.Prepare and maintain high-quality project documentation, including meeting notes, schedules, procurement records and progress reports.Work collaboratively across teams and with external partners – such as First Nations creators and art centres, manufacturers and suppliers, and other Museums we collaborate with on temporary exhibitions – to innovate and deliver initiatives that drive visitation, increase revenue and raise the profile of the NMA.Manage the retail databases for sales data and inventory management, with general oversight of data integrity, ensuring effective workflow and stakeholder engagement within the Commercial BU and across the NMA teams.Undertake project research and benchmarking, contribute to evaluation processes, and support innovation and continuous improvement across the BU’s operations.Maintain accurate records and uphold strong administrative, procurement and documentation practices aligned with government and Museum requirements.Demonstrate a strong commitment to Work Health and Safety (WH&S) by actively supporting a positive safety culture, following the Museum’s WHS policies and procedures, and complying with reasonable instructions to ensure alignment with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011Eligibility to applybe an Australian citizenundergo pre-employment checks, including a police record checkhold or be eligible to hold a security clearance at the level specified in the position description.NotesNotes: Reasonable adjustments are available throughout the recruitment process.
