Position: Health Care Support Worker – Band 3 (Permanent, Full-time). Pay: £24,937 to £26,598 per annum. Date Posted: 24 November 2025. Reference: 285-0777-MH. Location: Clent ward, Bushey Fields Hospital, Dudley, DY1 2LZ. Please note these roles cover shift patterns which can include weekends, nights and days – please ensure you are willing to work shifts before applying. Sponsorship is not available. Responsibilities Assist in basic care and assessment of the patient as support to, and under the supervision of, a registered nurse or senior support staff. Follow individualized care and therapeutic programmes for patients under nursing staff instructions. Provide support to patients with personal care. Be informed and aware of patients' clinical condition and circumstances to ensure care and comfort. Promote communication and act as an advocate for patients who have difficulty in communicating. Contribute to the patients' plan of treatment by communicating observations of patients’ behaviours to the Care Coordinator or nurse-in-charge during duty. Work with all members of the multidisciplinary team to promote quality care. Work in collaboration with the patient, involving them at all times with their care. Support qualified staff in admission and discharge procedures; ensure policies regarding patients’ property and valuables are maintained. Support staff in promoting recreation and leisure among patients. Contribute to promotion of patients’ education and well-being. Monitor and record patients' consumption of food and drink. Accompany appropriate patients to the site as and when required. Assist in maintaining a safe environment. Participate in the observation of patients at risk.Promote and maintain beneficial relationships between relatives, patients and carers in liaison with other agencies. Participate in projects and research schemes to improve the quality of patients’ lives. Be aware of and comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and all other Trust policies. Attend mandatory courses, lectures and in-house training as required. Develop skills and knowledge in mental health care by undertaking mandatory NVQ Level II training. Infection prevention and control is everyone's responsibility; comply with all Trust infection control policies and procedures. Undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with the responsibilities of this post to provide a quality service. Qualifications and Experience Essential: Minimum 6 months paid HCSW experience; experience working in a mental health setting. Desirable: Relevant qualification such as Care Certificate or NVQ Level 3 Health & Social Care; additional qualifications or studies.
