Applications will be acceptedThursday, November 20, 2025 12:00 AM - Friday, December 19, 2025 5:00 PM(Pacific Standard Time) Substitute Instructional Assistant - Early Childhood Special Education (Newport & Lincoln City) Job Description Substitute Instructional Assistant for Early Childhood Special Education needed on an on-call basis to support children ages 3–5 with special needs in their preschool setting. Please note: this position often requires accepting assignments on short notice. If you are regularly available Mondays through Thursdays between 8:00am and 4:00pm, we encourage you to apply. Subs are typically contacted by text or direct phone call as early as 7:30am by the Office Manager on the morning of the absence, as we do not have an automated system. Work locations include Newport Early Intervention and Lincoln City at Oceanlake Elementary. We have Early Childhood Special Education Programs in Albany, Corvallis, and Crawfordsville, Newport, and Lincoln City. You only need to apply for one of our Substitute Instructional Assistant positions to be considered for any of these locations. Our application will allow you to select the sites you prefer to work. This ever changing and rewarding work is paramount in the success of every classroom. QUALIFICATIONS At least 18 years of age. High School Diploma or equivalent. Working knowledge of developmental and physical disabilities in children. Effective oral and written communication skills. Working knowledge of computer programs including word processing and databases. Meet requirements of finger-print-based criminal history record verification. GENERAL INFORMATION This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities. Present self and LBL in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules. Ability to lift, carry or transport up to 40 lbs. and have the strength and agility to assist children with special needs. Must be able to kneel, crouch, sit and move from the floor to standing, sit on child sized furniture while working with children throughout the day. Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting. Ability to provide own transportation to school, preschools, community settings, as deemed necessary. The supervisor of this position may modify this list at any time it’s deemed necessary. Carry-out specialist’s plans for instruction during individual and small group activities. Carry-out specialist’s plans for children in community preschool settings. Assist in implementation of behavior programs. Assist in lifting physically disabled children. Work with children to improve eating, dressing, hygiene and toileting skills. Stimulate language through receptive and expressive language programs, and/or augmentative communication strategies. Keep data as required by the specialist. Keep teaching materials and other equipment in order. Prepare bulletin boards, room decorations and other materials as requested. Assist with playground and bus duty. Complete data entry, typing and filing as requested by the specialist.
