As a Lead Project Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a team that designs, develops, configures and verifies HVDC Control & Protection System, drives consistent design practices, implements common global processes for project implementation and provides technical solutions that meet project objectives. The role gives an excellent opportunity for a motivated engineer to expand their project management skills and personal development within an international project organisation delivering complex HVDC systems. Our Lead Project Engineers are essential to the successful execution of our projects. They provide technical leadership to other engineers and customer‑facing teams, and they oversee each phase of the project delivery to ensure we deliver valuable system solutions with excellent operational rigor. Responsibilities Lead a multi‑discipline team of engineers specialising in control and protection systems, automation systems, HV & LV power systems, and verification & validation, ensuring the overall solution meets customer, contract, quality and regulatory requirements. Provide technical leadership, advice and assistance to the overall project team as appropriate, including tendering, commissioning, service and third‑party work. Support the Project (Engineering) Manager as required and deputise for them when necessary. Plan and progress all design‑engineering related activities, including testing and commissioning for specific projects. Monitor, control and manage engineering budgets, project documentation, risk‑management processes, design reviews and quality & change‑control systems in accordance with company guidelines. Support improvement initiatives and cost‑out plans in collaboration with teams from other business units. Act as the primary technical and project interface with all project stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, NPI and product care. Ensure that all activities are executed efficiently and cost‑effectively in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards and safety requirements. Manage and lead the team to successfully execute projects with adherence to the project schedule, cost and contract. Lead and motivate a group of technical people. Act as a problem solver and take responsibility for control & protection along with automation of HVDC solutions. Engage in day‑to‑day interaction with different functions and joint problem solving within the core team for efficient collaboration and continuous competency development. To be a successful in this role, you should have: Experience in an engineering & project leadership environment. Experience in application engineering in one or more fields, from controls engineering, protection, automation, HVDC and grid‑connected systems. Experience in project execution of HVDC or similar projects. Experience of design and system integration on complex multi‑disciplinary projects. Controls & protection of HV & LV systems. Experience of owning the job, making it their own, and adding value beyond expectations. Capability to lead large multi‑disciplinary teams. Ability to multi‑task on a variety of tasks within strict time scales. Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication, presentation and facilitation skills. Customer‑centric mindset, experience in translating customer issues and needs into profitable business solutions. Qualifications Minimum degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or Project Management & equivalent degree with suitable industry experience. Significant and demonstrated years’ experience in Control & Protection systems and advanced problem‑solving skills. Excellent sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage team organisational risks. Proven skills in managing and leading teams with an advanced technical background. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work to deadlines under pressure while maintaining safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution. Willingness to travel globally and flexible working hours. Desired Characteristics Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills; experienced in creating and presenting to stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to analyse and resolve problems. Demonstrated ability to lead programmes / projects. Ability to document, plan and execute programmes. Established project management skills. Proven technical leadership in a complex functional engineering development environment. Experience in technical leadership and project management, as a people leader.
