Principal Scientist Translational Science – Neurodegeneration or Renal Disease The Principal Scientist Translational Science – Neurodegeneration or Renal Disease role is available at GSK. Location: Upper Providence, Pennsylvania (USA) or Stevenage, Hertfordshire (UK) Posted Date: Sep 26, 2025 As a Principal Scientist in the Translational Unit, you will bridge preclinical and early clinical proof‑of‑concept studies by designing and performing translational assays in human‑derived cells, tissues, and biofluids. This is a lab‑based position that requires mandatory on‑site presence at either the Upper Providence or Stevenage laboratory sites. Responsibilities Design and execute laboratory experiments to advance scientific understanding and support drug discovery in neurodegeneration or renal disease. Support identification and validation of clinical biomarkers and development of clinically deployable biomarker assays. Apply expertise in multiple capabilities such as ELISA/MSD/Quanterix, Western/JESS, flow cytometry, gene/protein expression analysis, proteomics, and other omics platforms. Troubleshoot assays effectively and develop alternative approaches when necessary, working closely with preclinical statistics and other relevant teams to ensure robust study design. Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in alignment with data integrity expectations and ensure compliance with all relevant protocols and safety guidelines. Basic Qualifications PhD in a scientific discipline (e.g., Molecular Biology, Genetics, Immunology, or related field) with relevant laboratory experience. 4+ years’ experience in translational and biomarker development. Experience with handling of primary human cells and laboratory techniques such as immunoassays (ELISA, MSD, Quanterix), multi‑color flow cytometry, and gene expression analysis. Experience in renal disease or neurodegeneration disease areas. Preferred Qualifications Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to critically analyze scientific data. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present scientific findings to multidisciplinary internal and external stakeholders in a balanced, clear, and precise manner. Proven ability to balance priorities across multiple objectives, meeting timelines while maintaining attention to detail and high‑performance standards. Able to independently define strategic approach to tackle specific project or department goals. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment.
