About The Role Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Leadership & Talent Development Lead to join our growing team. Base location for this role is flexible – UK travel is required. What you'll be doing Develop and own BBUK leadership and talent development strategy with a 10‑year horizon, aligned to business strategy, Grow our Own strategy, current and future capability needs. Deliver the interventions and activities to build, support and evolve leadership capability and transform organisational performance. Define the leadership behaviours, mindsets and capabilities needed for high calibre leadership required to lead through complexity and in support of strong performance, business growth and a positive, inclusive culture. Act as SME for our leadership competence procedure, leading the communication and embedding of the leadership levels. Nurture a holistic/rounded view of the Balfour Beatty Leader – build on/further develop our ‘red threads’ of high performance, Emotional Intelligence, inclusion and psychological safety. Ensure strong focus on DEI – align to strategic goals; ensure inclusion is embedded and integrated into leadership development approach and programmes. Seek research/external insights to anticipate future leadership and technology trends and integrate them into our development thinking/roadmap. Design and deliver Leadership/Talent programmes from Ones to Watch up to Future Leaders, working in strong partnership with the business and Head of Talent to deliver the BBUK Talent & Succession strategy, ensuring a strong internal pipeline of experts and leaders. Subject Matter Expert on Coaching. Articulate BBUK coaching policy – guiding utilisation of internal and external coaching, in alignment to Talent and Succession objectives and budget. Coach Senior Leaders and their teams, supporting team effectiveness, EI and building a culture of high performance and psychological safety. Nurture HR function coaching capability. Be a Champion for ‘Grow our Own’ – as part of L&D Leadership team create a strong narrative around our investment in skills and capability building as a reason to join Balfour Beatty, and a reason to stay (comms, engagement, case studies, external voice) and to support work winning. Team Leadership – engage and inspire team, encourage and support development; build succession for own role and wider HR/L&D roles. Use data to create insights on where action is needed, to measure impact and drive continuous improvement. Who we're looking for Skills Strategic Planning Commercial acumen (funding, structuring of training, supplier approach) Business Partnering with leaders Data Analysis Problem Solving Business Acumen Negotiation and Conflict resolution Leadership and Mentorship Project Management Change Management Collaboration Excellent verbal and written communication skills Presenting and Facilitating Executive coaching using psychometric assessments and personality profiling. Knowledge Degree in HR, Psychology, Business, or related field; or equivalent CIPD or business experience Budgets and cost control Data management and processes Leadership development solutions, models and methods of learning Deep understanding of adult learning, behavioural science, and leadership theory, experiential learning cycle and Kirkpatrick evaluation model. Microsoft suite including Power Point, Excel, Planner, Teams, Word and Co‑pilot Learning Management software and various technologies and tools that support remote and blended learning environments. Experience Proven experience in designing and delivering development at scale in complex organisations (including blended and digital learning). Using data and insight to inform and strengthen approach. Extensive experience of working in a commercial learning and development / organisational effectiveness professional role within a complex, multi‑contracted diverse culture. Strong strategic thinking (both ‘big picture’ and longer term) with ability to translate vision into actionable plans and measure results. Extensive experience of design, delivery and evaluation of a full range of learning portfolio (including blended learning), encompassing leadership, management, professional and culture. Experience of managing budgets, suppliers, partner.
