Mechanical Technician

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work at the Ashford Common - TW15 1RU Water production site. As a successful candidate, you will use your mechanical knowledge and experience to inspect, maintain, fault‑diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, ensuring our sites remain operational for our customers. What you’ll be doing as a Mechanical Technician Working on various pumps involved in water transfer within water treatment works and transmission throughout the network, as well as smaller chemical dosing pumps. Investigating mechanical plant failures and carrying out repairs quickly and efficiently to avoid interruptions for our customers. Investigating and diagnosing complex faults, carrying out repairs during incidents and performing scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures to improve plant resilience. Providing technical advice to the wider team, referencing up‑to‑date technical knowledge, and training or supporting technical trainees if required. Participating in a 24/7 out‑of‑hours standby rota after a suitable period of training and assessment. Base Location Ashford Common - TW15 1RU. Working Pattern 38 hours per week, Monday‑Friday. 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus standby rota payments & overtime opportunities can increase earning potential by up to £8,000‑£10,000 per annum after completion of essential company training. What you should bring to the role You should be a time‑served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems or with NVQ or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering. A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or upscale if required. An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to internal and external staff and contractors. Resilient, adaptable to the pressures of work and a constantly changing environment. Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative, to design to standards. Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues relevant to the industry. A team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others. Full UK driving licence. What’s in it for you? Annual leave: 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with length of service (plus bank holidays). Performance‑related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets.
