OverviewWe're seeking experienced Healthcare Support Workers to join our Medirooms Team. Working in the Medirooms is a challenging and rewarding role where the Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is an essential part of the multidisciplinary team. HCSWs in Medirooms support other members of the team including: Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners, Nursing Associates, Porters, Surgeons & Anaesthetists. You will be working in the Medirooms and recovery areas, participating in the care of patients during their perioperative journey. Although you will be working in a technical environment, good patient care is of utmost importance and you will be directly involved in the care of the patient immediately prior to and following their surgery. Medirooms is a 21st Century concept in healthcare, designed to enhance the patients’ experience through improving privacy and dignity.North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) is the only NHS organization to offer this new and innovative approach.The successful candidate should be committed to their development and will need to be either willing to work towards or already have achieved their Level 3 Diploma. Previous experience of working in a relevant acute hospital setting is essential.Main duties of the jobCommunicating with the Medirooms and theatres teams, including participating in team safety briefsEnsuring good infection control procedures are being followedPreparing the Medirooms before procedures, between procedures and at the end of the dayUnderstanding the equipment that is being used and being able to position and check it correctlyCollecting materials required for patient careHelping with the safe collection of clinical specimensAssisting with patient documentationParticipating in all aspects of the patient’s care, maintaining their privacy and dignityTalking with patients and their families who are undergoing care as a way of supporting and reassuring themHelping ensure that patient safety is at the heart of all we do in MediroomsEnvironmentEnsure clinical area is prepared and maintained as appropriate to individual patient needsMaintain the work environment in line with Trust Infection prevention and Health and Safety policiesIdentify requirements for and availability of equipment stores, CSSD as appropriate for patients’ clinical careIdentify and take appropriate action when equipment malfunctionsIdentify potential risk issues which could affect the patients’ health or social care needsProfessionalBe familiar and comply with all Trust Policies and ProceduresAct with privacy, dignity and confidentiality at all timesExhibit professional behaviour and customer care skills and support equality and diversityAct within limits of own competence, ensuring actions support care, protection and wellbeing of othersMaintain responsibility for ongoing development including audits of own practice; formulate a personal development plan and participate in the annual appraisal processEnsure all mandatory training is undertaken in line with Trust policyParticipate in investigations relating to incidents involving patients and/or staff when neededAdministrationUse IT systems for data collection, patient records, information and treatment requestsUtilise resources within departmental budgetary requirementsFollow correct procedures in the event of an incident or accident involving patients, staff or visitorsParticipate in ward and departmental meetingsAssist in induction and orientation of new staff, learners and visitorsEnsure safe custody, return or disposal of patient property in accordance with Trust PoliciesQualifications And TrainingEssential criteriaOne of the following qualifications: Level 3 RQF/SCQF, City and Guilds 3, NVQ 3, BTEC National Diploma, or equivalent experience (minimum 12 months)GCSE English and Maths at grade A-C (or equivalent)Completion of Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support (maps to Apprenticeship Standard for Senior Health Care Support Worker) or equivalent experienceWork ExperienceAt least 12 months experience in a relevant acute hospital settingPrior experience as a support workerAbility to work as part of a teamGood time management and prioritisation skills caring approach to patients and relativesDesirable criteriaExperience in a post-anesthetic care unit or surgical wardKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesExcellent communication skills, written and verbalIT skills including basic Microsoft Word and emailAwareness of healthcare policies and proceduresAbility to work with minimal supervision to a high standardPlease note: If you apply and do not receive communication within three weeks of the closing date, assume your application was unsuccessful.
