Job Summary Are you a newly qualified Speech & Language Therapist looking to start your career in a supportive and forward-thinking environment? We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 5 SLT to join our Community Neurorehabilitation Service within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The Community Neurological Rehabilitation Service offers rehabilitation support to adults in Gwent following their discharge from hospital following stroke. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your clinical skills as part of a passionate, multidisciplinary team committed to delivering person‑centred, evidence‑based care. You will work holistically with individuals to understand their condition, develop and re‑learn skills, return to hobbies or employment, optimise quality of life, and increase independence and self‑management in the community. Our dynamic clinical and ambitious leadership team are driving forward the quality strategy within SLT services which includes embedding the most up-to-date best practice guidance and interventions, developing key services such as timely access to instrumental assessment including VFSS & FEES and actively encouraging career development through access to Masters funding and CPD courses. This post is offered as fixed‑term / secondment for 15 months to meet the needs of the service. Job Responsibilities Be independently responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, intervention strategies, treatment, and discharge of own caseload in accordance with the guidelines of the Speech and Language Therapy Service and RCSLT Communicating Quality 3 professional standards. Accept clinical support and advice from senior clinicians. Work collaboratively with all appropriate agencies and colleagues for exchange of information by discussing own and other input around the client's needs ensuring a well‑coordinated care plan. Provide appropriate information, training, advice and support to clients and their carers and agree case management with them. Demonstrate empathy with clients, carers and families to ensure that effective communication is achieved often where complex barriers to understanding exist in clients with pathological communication difficulties. Seek advice or request a second opinions from senior clinicians. Participate in activities designed to improve the effectiveness of service provision. Supervise work delegated to speech and language therapy assistants, technical instructors, students, and volunteers. Participate in observation days for people considering Speech and Language Therapy as a career. Supervise observation of first year Speech and Language Therapy students with guidance from more senior clinicians. Participate in health promotion activities and contribute towards increasing public awareness of Speech and Language Therapy and communication and/or swallowing difficulties. Person Specification Essential Speech and Language Therapy Degree Registered with HCPC Member of RCSLT Knowledge of a broad range of assessment tools Knowledge of specific assessment/treatment tools for complex needs Desirable Some Research methodology/ clinical audit training Knowledge of clinical governance issues. Knowledge of national policies in Health and/or Education Reflective practice theory Experience A range of clinical placements. Desirable Experience A range of clinical placements Experience of working with a range of clients within a variety of settings Experience of running therapy groups Experience of working with multidisciplinary colleagues Skills and Attributes Essential Auditory discrimination and perceptual skills Ability to transcribe phonetically and analyse linguistic output Excellent and sensitive interpersonal skills including observation, listening, counselling and empathy skills Able to analyse assessment information and make clinical decisions Critical appraisal skills Desirable Skills in analysing and communicating complex assessment information Ability to speak Welsh or willingness to learn.
