Hereford, United Kingdom NMITE Full time

Technical Coordinator

Location: Hereford

Salary: £31,919 per annum

Who we are:
NMITE is an innovative new entrant in UK Higher Education in Hereford, with its eyes firmly on regional impact and a global reputation. We have ambitious aims to widen access to higher education, support lifelong learning in technology and engineering, to support industry and transform careers. Supported by the Government, industry, and the engineering profession, we aim to be a game-changer in every facet of our operations and educational programmes. NMITE’s approach to teaching is highly interactive – we don’t use lectures or traditional exams; we do use challenge-led, industry-linked learning experiences and we are proud advocates of learning by doing.

To thrive in our environment, you’ll need a can-do attitude, a solve-it mindset, the willingness to learn (NMITE is a new provider – on an exciting journey), the ability to work with all our multidisciplinary teams, and we are not going to say no to a good sense of humour when the going gets tough

The job:
The Technical Coordinator supports and coordinates practical, task-based learning across NMITE’s engineering curriculum, with a particular focus on electrical and electronic systems alongside mechanical and multidisciplinary engineering. The role ensures students experience safe, engaging, and effective hands-on learning in workshops, labs, and project environments. In this role, you will:

Support engineering practical sessions, including demonstrations, applied project work, and hands-on learning activities.
Prepare, maintain, and set up workshop equipment, tools, and materials for teaching and student projects.
Assist students with practical problem-solving, design realisation, and the safe use of machinery and tools.
Contribute to the design and enhancement of practical learning activities and applied projects.
Supervise workshops, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and maintaining induction and training records.
Support the planning and coordination of task-based learning activities in collaboration with Programme Leads.
Monitor and manage consumables and materials, working closely with Workshop Technical Support.
Assist with continuous improvement of workshop processes, learning environments, and student experience.
Provide guidance to students, escalating complex issues to the Facilities Manager as appropriate.
Qualifications & Experience

Required:

Practical, hands-on experience in engineering — ideally with exposure to electrical or electronic systems, but applicants from mechanical, manufacturing, or related engineering disciplines are also encouraged.
Experience working in workshops, labs, or technical environments where applied, practical learning takes place.
Strong understanding of engineering processes, tools, equipment, and fabrication or prototyping techniques (e.g., electrical test equipment, mechanical machinery, or mixed-discipline systems).
Ability to support, guide, and engage students in safe, effective, and inclusive practical learning activities.
Desirable:

HNC (or equivalent) in electrical/electronic engineering, mechanical engineering, or another related discipline, or comparable industry experience.
Experience supporting learning, training, coaching, or mentoring in academic or professional settings.
Familiarity with task-based, project-led, or hands-on learning approaches across different engineering disciplines.
Key Skills & Behaviours

Reliable, organised, and committed to delivering high-quality student learning experiences.
Excellent communication skills with an approachable, supportive manner.
Creative problem-solver with a practical mindset.
Collaborative team player able to work effectively with colleagues.
Flexible and adaptable to changing learning and workshop needs.
Inclusive, supportive, and open-minded in interactions with students and staff.
Our Values

Grit and determination – staying power and resilience in everything we do.

Creative and learning – we test boundaries, try new things, and learn openly from both success and mistakes.
Honest – respectful but straightforward communication, with transparency at our core.
