Greater London, United Kingdom University College London Hospital Full time

As a Receptionist at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH), you will play a vital role as the first point of contact for our patients and visitors. You’ll provide a warm welcome, deliver exceptional customer service, and support clinical and administrative teams to ensure a smooth patient journey. Working in a fast-paced environment you’ll handle multiple priorities and respond calmly to changing demands. You’ll be someone who enjoys problem-solving — using initiative to identify and resolve issues for patients and clinical teams — and who takes pride in helping services run efficiently. This role is ideal for an organised, approachable professional who thrives in a dynamic environment and is committed to providing an excellent patient experience. This job requires being on‑site in a patient‑facing environment 5‑days a week. While in post, there will be no opportunities for remote working. You will greet patients and visitors, manage a busy reception area, and handle a range of enquiries both in person and by phone or email. You’ll register patients, check them in for appointments, update electronic health records accurately, and support the coordination of busy outpatient clinics. You’ll be proactive in spotting and resolving issues that could affect patient flow or clinic outcomes — for example, rescheduling appointments, escalating delays, or resolving booking discrepancies. The role involves balancing competing demands, supporting patients who need reassurance or additional assistance, and liaising closely with clinical and administrative colleagues to keep services running smoothly. You’ll also arrange interpreters and transport when required, maintain confidentiality at all times, and contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting practical solutions to everyday challenges. Flexibility and teamwork are key, as you may provide support across different areas within your department.
