About The Role The Youth Justice Service has an opportunity for an experienced Youth Justice Officer with a minimum of two years statutory experience within Youth Justice, preferably a Qualified Social Worker or Probation Officer. The candidate must have experience of Asset Plus assessments, working with high‑risk children and young people, be proficient in youth court and able to manage a complex caseload. Key Responsibilities Supervise statutory orders that children and young people become subject to under the Youth Justice Service. Ensure court sentences are delivered by encouraging and facilitating compliance with court orders, using enforcement processes where necessary. Prepare pre‑sentence, referral order reports and other reports according to national standards. Represent the Youth Justice Service at Youth Court and other courts, including Crown Court as required, on Saturdays, Bank Holidays and other occasional courts. Partner with children’s service social work teams to support young people remanded to local authority accommodation, enabling them to remain in the community and reduce re‑offending risk. Work with the Secure Estate to deliver services to young people remanded or sentenced to custody, addressing offending behaviour and facilitating community resettlement. Carry out office duties as required. Manage a caseload and undertake direct work with children, young people and their parents/carers, including lone working, home visits and community venue meetings. Use ASSETPlus and other assessment tools to gather and analyse information for accurate, in‑depth understanding of a young person’s offending behaviour. Make accurate, clear assessments of risk in relation to public harm, dangerousness, re‑offending and vulnerability, and develop and implement risk management plans. Develop and deliver intervention plans with specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time‑bound targets based on assessed need, helping young people avoid re‑offending and achieve their potential. Promote multi‑agency working through good communication and attendance at case reviews. Provide a robust structure of supervision and support for young people on bail and at risk of being remanded in custody. Advise the line manager, Youth Justice Service Manager and/or other professionals of any concerns related to safety, welfare and protection of children and young people. Offer restorative justice opportunities to victims and offenders. Represent and promote the Youth Justice Service to other agencies, providing reliable, accurate and timely information. Collaborate and partner with other agencies in the public, private and voluntary sector to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.
