We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and forward thinking Specialist Dental Nurse to join the Birmingham Community Dental Nursing team. We are a multidisciplinary team that carry out a variety of different dental treatments under local anaesthetic, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia. Posting Details Band: 5 Paediatric Specialist Dental Nurse Hours: 30.0 hours / 0.8 WTE – for 12 months. Working days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. Location: Richmond Health Centre, 299 Bordesley Green East, Stechford, B33 8TA. Pay scheme: Agenda for change Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 a year per annum (pro‑rata) Contract: Fixed term – 8 months, part‑time. Date posted: 04 December 2025 Responsibilities Maintain a high standard of patient care and confidentiality within all dental clinics throughout the service and manage patients with complex dental, social and medical needs. Stock control/rotation and the ordering of dental consumables from appropriate suppliers. Prepare and maintain specialised dental equipment and dispose of clinical waste including bodily fluids. Support recording of patient pre‑operative assessments (e.g., height, weight and blood pressure). Carry out any other duties relevant to this role specified by the Dental Nurse Manager and/or Dental Nurse Tutor(s). Provide clinical nursing support for radiography within the department to support the clinical patient pathway. Identify relevant staff & student who require additional training within the specialty and escalation as appropriate. Support the School of Dental Nursing, University of Birmingham, School of Hygiene and Therapy and relevant Heads of Service to provide team training for all disciplines. Adhere to procedures to support and maintain national targets of compliance. Implement agreed local divisional and Trust Policies. Implement outcomes in respect of Clinical Governance & Quality Improvement relating to the specialty. Qualifications – Essential Dental Nursing Qualification. Post‑Qualification in Conscious Sedation IHS. GDC Registration. Significant experience in a wide range of dentistry. Significant evidence of continued professional development relevant to the specialty (IV/IHS). Computer literacy. Demonstrated experience of supporting undergraduates and post‑registration staff to deliver high quality patient care and achieve required educational standards. Qualifications – Desirable Recognised Teaching Qualification at Level 3 or Equivalent. Evidence of service quality improvement bringing about improved patient outcomes. Evidence of informal and formal assessment experience in an educational or healthcare environment.
