About The Role We are seeking to appoint a motivated individual to contribute to teaching and further development of our Actuarial Science programmes and module portfolios, which are based in the Department of Mathematics, and to pursue an excellent research agenda. The position will also entail advising students, supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects and playing an administrative role in the running of the Department. This position is offered on the Education and Research Pathway (Research Strand). The Successful Candidate Will Have a strong track record of internationally leading research in actuarial science, statistics, statistical data science, or financial mathematics Have skills and experience to engage in teaching delivery and further development of our specialised Actuarial Science modules and relevant Financial Mathematics or Statistics modules Contribute to the day‑to‑day management and continual improvement of our Actuarial Science programmes, maintain the alignment between the programme structure and the IFoA Core Principles syllabus. Engage with the actuarial professional community and lead the promotion of the Year in Industry variant of the BSc Actuarial Science programme. Department of Mathematics The Department of Mathematics at Swansea University is highly rated for both teaching and research: it was ranked 3rd in the UK for Student Satisfaction in the Complete University Guide 2025, 13th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide 2026, and in REF 2021, it was ranked joint 16th in the UK for the overall quality of its research and joint top for impact, with 100% of impact cases rated as world leading and 100% of the department’s publications rated as world‑leading and internationally excellent. The department is home to five research groups: Algebra, Geometry and Topology, Analysis and Nonlinear PDEs, Biomathematics, Computational Mathematics, and Probability. The department is based on the Bay Campus in the £31M purpose‑built Computational Foundry, home of the School of Mathematics and Computer Science.
