Consultant Medical Oncologist Gynaecological We are currently seeking a full‑time Medical Oncologist with an interest in gynaecological cancers to be based in Wrexham Maelor Hospital. This post is a replacement appointment which attracts 10 Programmed Activities and an on‑call payment. Newly qualified consultants will be offered 3 SPA’s as standard. Applications are welcome from those who wish to work full or part‑time. BCUHB has 3 cancer centres consisting of a team of 23 consultants (11 clinical and 12 medical) providing care to the population of North Wales. The successful candidate will be based in Wrexham Maelor Hospital within the Shooting Star Unit. The appointee will have an on‑call commitment at the North Wales Cancer Centre in Ysbyty Glan Clwyd on a 1 in 8 basis. Beyond clinical duties, there are opportunities to contribute to education and research as well as leadership functions. Main Duties of the Job Provide specialist oncological services to the population served, with special reference to the common cancers and agreed appropriate oncology subspecialties, and be an active participant in each of these multidisciplinary teams. Work closely with clinical consultant colleagues and provide seamless cancer care for all patients. Collaborate with colleagues in other divisions to assist in providing an efficient service for patients transferring between disciplines during the patient journey. Liaise with colleagues in Oncology, Haematology and Palliative Care to provide inpatient cover for oncology patients. Person Specification Qualifications and Experience Full GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview. MB ChB or equivalent. MRCP or equivalent. Appropriate experience in training grade posts at SpR/SR level. Desirable criteria Higher Degree. Experience in participating and leading multidisciplinary teams. Experience in teaching, clinical audit. Skills and Ability Ability to gain confidence and trust. Ability to cope with pressure. Ability to respond to change. Ability to educate and train junior medical staff. Ability to travel between sites for peripheral clinics. Demonstrates good interpersonal skills with patients, relatives and members of the clinical team. Excellent communication skills. Desirable Criteria (Skills and Ability) Computer skills. Leadership skills appropriate to directing and teaching medical, nursing and other professions allied to medicine. Good IT skills. Research Essential Criteria Published research. Actively encourages research with junior and other staff. Desirable Criteria Research degree. Additional Requirements Essential criteria Commitment to personal development and medical education. Ability to travel when required to meet the needs of the service. Ability to be flexible in response to the changing needs of the service.
