The successful applicant will be assigned a consultant mentor for the duration of the post. Candidates wishing to pursue a Portfolio Pathway to specialist registration will be supported in this process pending approval by their Educational Supervisor and the wider faculty. The post holder is expected to carry out duties to a satisfactory level, demonstrate commitment to gaining the necessary competencies for the Portfolio Pathway, and have attended the RCEM Portfolio Pathway Applicants Training Day. Where applicable, annual secondments will be offered in Acute Medicine, Anaesthetics, Critical Care and Children’s Emergency Medicine/Acute Paediatrics. The department allocates time for Education and Development which is expected to be carried out on site. Visits to the Department are welcomed and encouraged. Responsibilities include assessment, treatment, and disposition of patients attending the Emergency Department. You will support 24/7 middle‑grade cover for the department. Consultant presence is from 08:00 to midnight, seven days a week, with evening consultant support on an 'on‑call' basis between midnight and 08:00. Accountable to consultants in Emergency Medicine, you will carry out ward rounds on the Emergency Assessment Unit on a shared basis with other middle‑grade and senior doctors, and take a lead role in managing acutely ill and trauma patients. Efficient prioritisation and time‑management relative to departmental activity, staffing, and senior input are essential. You will supervise junior doctors and medical students, actively contributing to their formal and informal education, thereby developing leadership skills.
