Job Summary Working Full Time: 10 Sessions per week Applications are invited for the position of Consultant in Elderly Medicine. The department has expanded rapidly over the past 7 years and this additional post will bring the number of Geriatricians within the department to thirteen. The role offers exciting opportunities to influence the rapid developments occurring within this dynamic department, supporting Acute Frailty services either directly or through other subspecialty support. The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS FT is an RCP Future Hospital exemplar site and continues to transform urgent care pathways, delivering an integrated model that increases the utilisation of ambulatory and short stay care whilst supporting enhanced care delivery within the community. The Trust has a strong Medical Education department, and the post holder will have a significant educational role. Main Duties of the Job Regular ward rounds on the inpatient frailty ward, supporting junior doctors and the multidisciplinary team; attending daily MDTs; named consultant for up to 14 inpatients plus 0–4 outliers, indicating 300–350 patient reviews per month. General elderly clinic and a subspecialty clinic (flexible to candidate’s interest – movement disorders, falls, stroke, community). Indicative clinic numbers: 8 new patients and 32 reviews per month for a weekly 3‑hour clinic. "Front door" acute geriatrician sessions supporting the emergency department, rapid response team and acute physicians with specialty in‑reach, providing early advice and input into care and management plans of frail elderly in the acute setting. Supervision of junior doctors. Attendance to and input into speciality and departmental meetings. Qualifications & Experience Essential GMC registration with licence to practice MRCP (or equivalent) Dual CCST in G (I) M and Geriatric Medicine (or within 6 months of interview) or alternative route to specialist registration (e.g. CESR) ALS Desirable MD/MSc/PhD Recognised teaching skill course or qualification Relevant experience in undertaking and organising audit Research and publications relevant to the post Undertaken relevant courses – Change Management Skills Details Grade: Consultant Salary: £109,725 to £145,478 a yearContract: Permanent Working Pattern: Full-time Reference number: 210-2025-823 Job location: Countess of Chester Hospital, Liverpool Road, Chester, CH2 1UL #J-18808-Ljbffr
