As part of the net‑zero journey, Defra Group Fleet Services (DGFS) leads the transition to a sustainable fleet. This role offers leadership for a seasoned contract professional to drive change and deliver on our fleet strategy. Responsibilities include managing a team of specialists overseeing purchase and service contracts, collaborating cross‑departmentally, shaping contract strategies, leading procurement processes, building supplier relationships, managing full contract lifecycles, ensuring compliance with environmental, legal and health & safety standards, and participating in incident response training. Team Defra Group Fleet Services (DGFS) is a national team within the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate, collaborating with other teams to define contract needs and oversee supplier performance. This role reports directly to the Strategic Fleet Manager. Experience & Skills Required Principal advisor on fleet contract matters, offering expert guidance within policy frameworks. Shape and influence fleet policy nationally and locally, ensuring consistent implementation. Design and implement performance monitoring systems, interpreting supplier data to provide evidence‑based recommendations. Build strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external providers. Lead and manage a geographically dispersed team, ensuring efficient planning and resource allocation. Competence Assessments Provide examples for the following: Efficiency, Innovation and Quality: opportunities to create or improve methods or processes without compromising quality. Influences and Persuades Others: presenting a convincing case that wins people over. Takes Decisions and Solves Problems: delivering solutions by analysing information and taking timely decisions.
