Are you passionate about making a real difference at a profoundly important time in people's lives? We are looking for a Band 6 Palliative Care Nurse to join our community team in West Cumbria. This is an exciting opportunity to specialise in palliative and end‑of‑life care, supporting patients and families through some of life's most critical moments. You will provide expert specialist advice, guidance and support to patients, carers/relatives, clinical practitioners and the wider multidisciplinary team. You will be instrumental in assessing, planning, and delivering compassionate, high‑quality care, while also sharing your knowledge and expertise with colleagues. While your primary base will be in West Cumbria, there may be occasions to support other parts of the service, including hospital settings or East Cumbria, providing continuity of care across the region. Responsibilities Deliver expert palliative care to patients with complex needs across diverse community and home settings. Manage symptoms and provide holistic support to patients and their families. Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless service delivery. Advise, educate, and support colleagues and carers, promoting best practice in palliative care. Standard check: £27.40; Enhanced check: £55.40. Person Specification Essential Evidence of sustained personal and professional development. Registered nurse (level I). Educated to degree level or equivalent. Advanced communication skills training/qualification from a recognised body. Enhanced, comprehensive knowledge of issues related to Specialist Palliative Care. Demonstrated ability to obtain and evaluate information to aid decision making. Knowledge of clinical governance and its application. Committed to continued professional development and ability to concentrate in an unpredictable work environment. Understanding of current NHS issues and initiatives. Ability to apply research into practice. Organisation and time management skills. Intermediate IT skills (Word, email, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, desktop publishing). Highly developed expert communication skills both verbal and written. Ensure own actions support equality, diversity, rights and maintain quality. Minimum 2 years post‑basic experience in a relevant field. Evidence of clinical competence in palliative care. Recognition of own limitations. Experience of and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team. Experience of undertaking audit. Adaptable to the changing needs of the service; self‑motivated, enthusiastic, innovative, flexible; approachable; assertive; able to deal with difficult and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy. Desirable Post‑registration qualification in palliative care. Recent study at Masters/post‑graduate/Highly specialist level in a relevant area. Teaching qualification. People management skills including motivation of staff, team building, negotiation, decision making, leadership, staff development, conflict and problem solving. Management and leadership experience.
