Job Details Date posted: 02 December 2025 Pay scheme: Agenda for change Band: Band 5 Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per annum Contract: Permanent Working pattern: Full-time, Part-time, Flexible working Reference number: 224-PA20251003110 Job location: Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, Oswestry, SY10 7AG Job responsibilities Be aware of personal and professional development and attend courses and conferences as approved by the Theatre Practice Development Team. Frequently move orthopaedic trays (up to 30lbs each) from the Sterile Services Unit to working trolleys. Maintain up‑to‑date manual handling training, move large equipment such as arthroscopy stacks, and transfer patients from trolley to bed post‑operation. Know the content of each instrument tray; check and inspect trays before the case and prior to closing. Handle unexpected intra‑operative complications, maintain knowledge of orthopaedic specialist surgery and possess strong communication skills. Maintain concentration throughout the day; exhibit alertness, initiative and assertiveness when complications arise. May be exposed to emotionally demanding situations on a daily basis. Work in a high‑risk area with exposure to body fluids and hazardous substances. Person Specification Essential qualifications Registered Nurse with NMC or ODP with HCPC. Nursing degree/diploma or ODP qualification. Mentorship qualification. Desirable qualifications Theatre qualification. Mentorship or equivalent level of specialist skill. Essential experience Registered Nurse or ODP. Desirable experience Experience in the theatre environment, specialist orthopaedics. Essential skills and competencies Commitment to maintain own skills and standard of care. Problem solving skills. Ability to work without direct supervision. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Essential knowledge Prepared to update orthopaedic knowledge and undertake further professional education.
