An exciting opportunity has arisen for a research assistant (Grade 6B) post based at the UCL’s Institute for Liver and Digestive Health (ILDH), which brings together a wide team of basic scientists and clinical experts with the vision to deliver an exciting and forward looking programme of work that will transform translational medicine working under the CANDETECT (CRUK) project. The position offers a highly motivating environment, in a translational environment, with access to cutting‑edge technologies and resources. The research in this post will be based primarily within the ILDH, UCL Division of Medicine, and may involve work at our two trial sites – the Royal Free Hospital (RFH) and University College London Hospitals (UCLH). ILDH works in close coordination with the Hepatobiliary Medicine, Surgery and Liver Transplantation services at UCLH and RFH. The post will allow you work closely with the CANDETECT (CRUK) initiative and drive the early detection work for pancreatico‑biliary (PB) cancers and how we can implement new early detection techniques to improve detection novel markers and improve detection and outcomes in PB cancer patients. About the role To consent and recruit patients for CANDETECT projects – maintain accurate records and databases, including sample collection and processing. To maintain the biobanked samples and contribute to experimental research for (e.g., OG biomarker discovery and validation, multiomics) and assist research team members with provision of information such as recruitment statistics or data when requested. To support research/clinical staff with preparations for sponsor and external audits/inspections. This role is not eligible for sponsorship and is available for 1 year in the first instance. About you The ideal candidate would hold a BSc in Biological Sciences or equivalent and will have experience in biomedical research or of working in a laboratory setting/healthcare environment. Holding an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent will be a plus. Experience with collection, handling, processing and evaluation of biological samples and data acquisition is desirable, as well as experience in working with clinical data and databases. The candidate should prove evidence of excellent organisational and communication skills, ability to work independently and to function well within a team.
