a) Conduct a wide range of physiological measurement investigations as offered by the department including, but not limited to, oesophageal manometry, oesophageal pH impedance studies, hydrogen and methane breath testing, anorectal physiology and wireless pH monitoring.b) Act as an independent practitioner with advanced clinical skills including communication, patient preparation, manipulation of equipment and where required, using sensitive invasive techniques.c) Support the provision of comprehensive bowel behavioural therapy within the pelvic floor multidisciplinary team to include, but not limited to, patient education sessions, advice and medication review, biofeedback techniques and rectal irrigation demonstration.d) Produce advanced high quality diagnostic reports based on tests undertaken and keep accurate and clear records of any advice or treatments given.e) Work as part of relevant multi-disciplinary teams reporting back on test results and treatments and contributing to discussions on patient management based on tests performed and treatment given within the service.f) Recognise the limitation/accuracy of the various measurement techniques and advise accordingly.g) Undertake equipment calibration, fault diagnostics, safety checking and support the Head of Department in implementing / revising local quality assurance policies for physiological measurement techniquesMain duties of the job1. Knowledge of governance issues including ethical and regulatory considerations.3. Ability to give technical advice to colleagues, senior clinicians and other health professionals.4. Advanced knowledge of working area enabling post holder to advise on the appropriateness of techniques, and to collaborate with clinicians in their interpretation and reporting.5. Undertake complex calculation, data analysis and to issue reports on quantitative techniques.6. Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with colleagues, medical staff and other health care professionals.7. To communicate highly complex procedures in simple terms to patients, their relatives and other health care professionals where there may be barriers to understanding.8. Communicate highly complex, scientific, mathematical, statistical and regulatory knowledge and advice to medical staff, other clinical scientists and medical technologists.9. To provide accurate and timely written reports of investigations performed.10. Communicate sensitive information and tests results only to appropriate staff.Job responsibilities1. Liaise with colleagues, medical staff, other health professionals, Trust support services and equipment suppliers as appropriate.12. Interpret clinical and scientific results and form a judgement on their significance.13. Contribute to the analysis of national and international guidelines and recommendations to develop or improve procedures and protocols relevant to the area of work.14. Contribute to the development of cost effective solutions to clinical problems.15. Responsible for prioritising own workload some of which may be ongoing and will require excellent time management skills.16. Assist in the preparation of plans for the development of existing services or the addition of new services where required.17. Perform fine adjustments of medical equipment or instrumentation as well as performing patient measurements.18. Provide highly specialist GI physiology services.19. Perform and supervise tests ensuring results can be interpreted with confidence.20. Provide highly specialist advice to medical staff or other health care professionals performing clinical investigations or interventions.21. Ensure patient safety with the use of commercially manufactured equipment and systems ensuring that these are adequately maintained, calibrated and tested.22. Responsible for the safe use of expensive and highly complex equipment.23. To help contribute to the specification and justification of goods and services required by the unit, particularly in regard to statutory and other requirements for medical devices.24. Assist with training of clinical scientist and other health care professionals as required.25. Regularly lead or participate in research and development work.26. Play a key role in the commissioning of specialised equipment and software prior to clinical use.27.
