Post Details Job Title: Locum Consultant Radiologist – Abdominal Radiologist Grade: Locum Consultant Department: Radiology Hours per Week: 10 PAs Reports to: Radiology Clinical Lead Job Summary A skilled Locum Consultant in Abdominal Radiology is required for a temporary position covering maternity leave. The role will be based within the Main Radiology Department and requires full accreditation in Clinical Radiology. Expertise in abdominal imaging and proficiency in advanced modalities such as CT colonography, MRI, and GI ultrasound is essential. The appointed consultant will actively participate in MDT meetings aligned with clinical interests. There is no on-call commitment for this locum position. The institution serves a population of approximately 1.3 million, with some services extending to a regional population of 3 million. The site is also a hub for specialised services and provides exciting opportunities in teaching and clinical research, with links to a nearby university and several high-profile research initiatives. The location offers a vibrant coastal lifestyle, excellent amenities, and access to outstanding natural beauty, including the New Forest. Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties Provide high-quality diagnostic and interventional GI radiology services. Undertake interpretation of advanced imaging modalities, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, and fluoroscopy of the abdomen and gastrointestinal system. Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings. Participate in relevant quality improvement and clinical governance activities. Training and Research Engage in the training and mentorship of medical students, trainees, and other healthcare professionals. Collaborate on clinical research initiatives as applicable. Management Duties Support departmental management and contribute to operational planning. Participate in developing policies and service improvement strategies. Administrative Duties Maintain accurate, comprehensive patient documentation and liaise clearly with referrers. Travel between sites if required to maintain service delivery. Person Specification Qualifications and Training Essential: MBBS or an equivalent recognised medical qualification. GMC registration with a licence to practise. FRCR or an equivalent recognised qualification. Completed formal training in Radiology with subspecialty expertise in abdominal radiology. Proficiency in abdominal ultrasound, including biopsy techniques. Desirable: MRCP or MRCS. ECNR qualification. Evidence of published peer-reviewed research. Skills and Experience Essential: Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team. Strong organisational and time management skills. Exceptional communication skills—both verbal and written—with the ability to support effective patient communication. Proven track record of teaching and mentoring junior staff. Participation in audit and quality improvement projects. Desirable: Experience in clinical research with published work. Leadership experience within clinical teams or projects.
