OverviewJoin to apply for the HTRC Cast Process Engineer role at MTC - Manufacturing Technology Centre. Based at the High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) in Ansty, you will conduct research and improvement activities related to the design and manufacture of turbine components. The HTRC is a collaboration between the University of Birmingham and Rolls-Royce and is equipped with state‑of‑the‑art equipment for investment casting, machining, and advanced metrology of single crystal components.ResponsibilitiesDesign & make of turbine components for engine development projectsDevelop novel design and manufacturing techniques to enable future design styles and manufacturing technologiesAccelerate cost reduction and casting/machining yield improvement activities for turbine componentsWork within co-located design and manufacturing engineering teams within the HTRC and in close collaboration with researchers from relevant academic fieldsManufacturing Engineers are responsible for the method of manufacture that delivers component requirements and support both process engineering and project delivery tasksThis role has a focus on Casting Furnace Process Engineering for use in Single Crystal Investment CastingProcess Engineers are primarily accountable for the equipment and process methods used within the HTRC; they drive best practice and continuous improvement and act as a central point for knowledge management and communication across the HTRC and externally with suppliers, customers and partnersSupport and liaise with operational teams to ensure safe and reliable equipment and processesProject Engineers understand customer requirements and translate them into a method of manufacture; manage the associated technical package; validate and substantiate components; manage non-conformance or quality concerns to ensure safe manufactureKnowledge & QualificationsDegree qualified or demonstrate equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experienceSound understanding of manufacturing engineering and component engineering principlesUnderstanding of casting techniques; ideally experience with casting furnacesStrong functional skill set (problem solving, programme management, change control, risk management and budgetary control)Experience in research environments and to work with customers to optimise Design for Manufacture (DfM)Experience creating and managing experiments to develop manufacturing and component capabilityExperience creating and managing methods of manufacture and technical packages for component manufacture and deliveryKnowledge of inspection requirements and experience developing inspection capabilitiesAbility to resolve non-conformance and deliver in-spec productsAbility to continuously improve current and develop novel manufacturing capability for turbine componentsInfluence on future manufacturing capability roadmaps to support world‑class processesUnderstand equipment requirements and develop equipment capability; ensure stability and reliability of process equipment and methodsDevelop and coach Technicians in manufacturing processesBenchmarked external capability; supported projects with small batches of development parts as requiredPerson SpecificationSelf-driven, proactive team player with strong communication skillsAdherence to the MTC RIGHT way: acting responsibly, providing inspirational leadership, delivering a great working environment, leading with humility and integrity, promoting teamworkAbout The MTCThe Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) is an internationally renowned R&D organisation bridging academia and manufacturing.
