As an Inpatient Mental Health Occupational Therapist (Band 6), you will be an integral part of our established multi‑disciplinary team. Your mission will be to collaboratively support older adults in achieving their goals and improving their quality of life. The post‑holder will have excellent assessment and individual and group intervention skills, and will have the opportunity to provide client‑centred assessments and interventions in a flexible and creative way. There are also opportunities to develop the service in line with Mental Health Community Transformation. Main Duties of the Job Work in collaboration with the multi‑disciplinary team to assess and treat older people with dementia and/or mental ill health, facilitating discharge and enabling future accommodation/care needs to be identified in regard to individual preference and best interest. Be responsible for an appropriate caseload, providing Occupational Therapy specific assessment, treatment/interventions via a range of individual and/or group treatments. Provide clinical supervision and support practice education when required. Contribute to the planning and evaluation of the Older People’s Mental Health services. Qualifications Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy Health Care Professionals Council registration Desirably a member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy Essential Experience At least one year post‑qualification in a clinical mental health setting and/or demonstrable experience highly related to the clinical field Experience of CPD and role development activities, focusing on the needs and rights of service users and/or carers in planning and service development Applied social, health and medical sciences required for the practice of Occupational Therapy including psychology, anatomy, physiology and sociology Applied psychological perspectives relevant to OT in mental health including behavioural, cognitive and humanistic perspectives The theory and practice of occupational therapy including occupational science and holistic models of OT practice Specialist clinical skills in order to carry out OT interventions (interactive and activity‑based interventions, cognitive behavioural interventions, psychosocial and psycho‑educational interventions) Specialist skills via training e.g. group effectiveness skills Current National Guidelines and legislation e.g. CPA, NSF, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act 2014 and their application, and ability to impart this to others Ability to independently manage a complex clinical caseload Developed interpersonal skills enabling therapeutic alliances to be developed and maintained with clients who have complex needs Ability to manage frequent highly distressing clinical interactions with clients who have serious mental health problems Ability to liaise with other services around clinical issues Good organisational and time‑management skills Ability to reflect on and critically appraise own performance Ability to plan, prioritise and coordinate a range of activities in relation to clinical work Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve.
