Specialist Teacher
Newcastle City Council SEND Outreach Service is looking to appoint a 0.6 FTE specialist teacher. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to promoting a child‑centred and inclusive approach to achieve the best outcomes for children and young people with special education needs including speech, language and communication and cognition and learning needs. The SEND Outreach Service team currently includes specialist teachers, specialist Nursery Nurses and specialist Learning Support Assistants who work on a peripatetic basis to provide a range of advice, support and training for schools and settings across mainstream schools in Newcastle. The team working into schools and post‑16 settings currently has 10 specialist teachers and five Learning Support Assistants. The job will require working in an agile manner; most of the day will be spent in schools advising SENCos, teachers and support staff on how best to make provision for pupils with learning and speech and language needs. Time is set aside for meetings with other team members as well as for planning and preparation work. The successful applicant will have the option to work from home as well as offices located in the Civic Centre and Westgate Community College. A laptop and mobile phone are provided to support required work. Successful applicants will benefit from a full programme of induction and training opportunities provided by the SEND OS team and, more widely, from the Local Authority. You will benefit from working alongside a highly skilled, knowledgeable and very supportive team of people. Responsibilities Respond in a pro‑active and collaborative way to requests made by schools and post‑16 settings for advice and support for children and young people with special educational needs, particularly cognition and learning and speech and language needs. Support schools to develop practice and systems designed to support children and young people with such needs. Work with schools to set targets and plan provision for children and young people. Provide training to colleagues in mainstream schools and settings. Please also see attached Job Description and Person Specification. We are committed to protecting and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This post is working in regulated activity. If you are successful we will undertake additional recruitment checks which will include a check to see if you have had any criminal convictions, a check of police information and we will check the barred list(s). It is a criminal offence for a barred individual to apply for a job in regulated activity. Apply online at www.northeastjobs.org.uk, select 'Apply Now' and complete our online application form. Before completing the form please ensure you read the supporting documents. Any communication sent to you regarding your application will be sent to the email address you have set up on your Northeast Jobs account, so you will need to ensure that you check your inbox. #J-18808-Ljbffr
