As Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust has Services across multiple sites, the post-holders may be required to work at a differing site on certain days of the week. The post-holders will be expected to:Contribute to the care of neurology inpatients, and the acute neurology liaison service.Participate in the on-call rota, which includes neurology and resident stroke thrombolysis/thrombectomy duties.Attend/deliver sub-specialty outpatient clinics.Attend subspecialty multidisciplinary team meetings and neuroradiology meetings.Assist with triaging of referrals into subspecialty clinics.Attend the weekly clinical and academic meetings.Participate in audit, quality improvement projects and clinical research where applicable.Involvement in teaching of resident doctors and medical students.The postholder will be expected to participate in the oncall rota.Working for our organisationAt Imperial College Healthcare you can achieve extraordinary things with extraordinary people, working with leading clinicians pushing boundaries in patient care.Become part of a vibrant team living our values - expert, kind, collaborative and aspirational. Please talk to us at interview.Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesThe main responsibilities of the post include:1) Provide high quality care to neurology patientsThe post will involve care of neurology inpatients, acute neurology liaison service, outpatient clinics - general and subspecialty - and weekly academic and neuro-radiology meetings. The post holders will be expected to participate in the on-call rota, which includes neurology and resident stroke thrombolysis/thrombectomy duties.The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration2) Research, teaching and trainingWhere possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of research governance.To provide high quality teaching to medical undergraduates and members of other health care professions as required by clinical director.3) Performance managementTo work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in the following areas: Clinical efficiency e.g. LOS reductions, reducing DNA rates; Quality of outcomes e.g. infection control targets, reducing re-admission rates; Financial management e.g. identification, implementation and achievement of cost improvement programmes and participating in efforts to ensure services are provided cost effectively e.g. managing locum agency spend, monitoring and managing the drug budget to target, ensuring accuracy of clinical data for the team; Operational efficiency e.g. day-case rates, waiting list activity and demand management.4) GovernanceTo review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the divisional director or clinical director.To participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.To work closely with the directorate, patient and public involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the divisional director/clinical director.To participate in ensuring NICE requirements are reviewed and implemented and monitored in the speciality areas.Person specificationQualificationsEssential criteriaMBBS or equivalent medical qualificationAppropriate Royal College Membership (MRCP) or equivalentFull registration with the GMC with a licence to practiceDesirable criteriaAn appropriate higher degree (e.g. MD or PhD)Inclusion on the specialist register for neurology GMCClinical ExperienceEssential criteriaEvidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialtiesNeurology SpR level experienceKnowledge of the NHS models of Acute Neurology and SDECDesirable criteriaLooking for end of neurology training experience at ICHNTClinical SkillsEssential criteriaAppropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problemsAwareness of the basics of managing neurological diseaseAble to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures as an indication of manual dexterity and hand-eye coordinationEvidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, portfolio evidence, including log book documentation if applicableEvidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriateDemonstrate current ALS certification or equivalentDesirable criteriaExperience of stroke thrombolysis with evidence of training/competencyAbility to function as a competent independent neurologistKnowledge of patient management systems like CernerClinical Audit and/or Quality ImprovementLanguageEssential criteriaFluent English with evidence provided where necessaryPlease ensure you check your emails regularly as this is how we will communicate with you throughout the recruitment process.
