Job Description Clinical Safety Officer Location United Kingdom Lincolnshire (1 day a week) The Role This is a specialist clinical role within the Digital Team, focusing on patient safety. The post holder will be an experienced clinical practitioner (Nurse / Midwife / AHP / Pharmacist / Pharmacy Technician / Clinical Scientist) and a trained Clinical Safety Officer (CSO). The purpose of the role is to implement Clinical Risk Management activities within Digital Services that support the safe development, introduction, and deployment of clinical digital systems. The post-holder will coordinate with other Trust teams to ensure a cooperative approach to digital clinical risk management. Your Responsibilities As part of the Digital Team, support the implementation of the digital clinical safety strategy under the guidance of the Chief Nursing Information Officer (CNIO). Conduct clinical safety reviews and risk assessments related to digital systems, including the Trust's new Electronic Patient Record (EPR). Collaborate across the Lincolnshire Integrated Care System to ensure clinical pathways are integrated into the safety approach for systems deployed within ULHT. Act as a designated Clinical Safety Officer for the EPR programme, ensuring a suitable clinical safety process is in place during the manufacture, procurement, and implementation of digital health systems. Develop, maintain, and refine systems and processes to identify and address patient safety risks associated with digital health applications and systems. Oversee the development and use of Health IT systems in alignment with DCB 0160. Supervise CNIO plans and conduct Clinical Safety Assessment workshops for digital systems, meeting NHS England Transformation Directorate standards (DCB0129 & DCB0160), adhering to Trust guidance and standards. Create and approve Clinical Safety Cases (applications) and reports. Ensure understanding and compliance with MHRA, DCB0129, and DCB0160 regulatory standards. Work as an experienced clinician with evidence of effective practice across a range of clinical settings within a multidisciplinary team (MDT). Maintain a portfolio of evidence demonstrating CSO experience and achievements. Complete regular audits, including: Clinical Risk Management File (CRMF) Clinical Risk Management Plan (CRMP) Hazard Log (HL) Clinical Safety Case / Clinical Safety Case Report Safety Incident Management Log Decommissioning Clinical Safety Case Report Work with members of the clinical safety function from frontline digitisation / NHSE to develop the clinical safety cases required for the Trust's new EPR / EPR modules. Support service developments and improvements in line with "What Good Looks Like (WGLL)" frameworks and outcomes. Maintain a professional portfolio in line with Trust guidance and that of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Your Profile Essential Skills / Knowledge / Experience Registered practitioner (Nursing, Midwifery, AHP, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician, or Clinical Scientist). Clinical Safety Officer trained / NHS Digital Clinical Safety Accreditation. Master's in a related healthcare discipline or substantial experiential equivalence. Evidence of continuing professional development - master's or equivalent knowledge of PMP / PRINCE2 Foundation. QSIR training understanding. Ability to draw together and analyse complex information. Understanding of the national digital agenda and key clinical safety requirements in relation to NHS England Transformation Directorate standards (DCB0129 & DCB0160). Up-to-date, evidence-based knowledge of current clinical and professional issues. Strong change management skills. Desirable Skills / Knowledge / Experience Good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 suite. Excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of EPR systems such as Nervecentre and Cerner.
