NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Gastroenterology Join to apply for the NIHR Academic Clinical Lecturer in Gastroenterology role at The University of Sheffield. Overview This NIHR Clinical Lecturer post in Gastroenterology has been awarded to The Medical School at The University of Sheffield as part of the prestigious UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC)/ Modernising Medical Careers (MMC) integrated academic training pathway. The post forms an integral part of the Gastroenterology clinical training programme led by Dr Sampath Kumar (Training Programme Director) and the Academic Training Lead is Professor David Sanders. The role offers 50% clinical and 50% academic time and is supported by an Academic National Training Number [NTN(A)] as part of the South Yorkshire rotation in gastroenterology. Main Duties and Responsibilities Clinical Training ProgrammeAlmost all the Gastroenterology training is at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals (STH). You will join a team of 8 Gastroenterology Registrars from ST3 to ST7 at NGH, with further colleagues based at Doncaster, Barnsley and Rotherham. Your clinical work will be in Sheffield with a 50% commitment, configurable to your training needs. Relationship between Academic and Clinical TrainingThe post holds an NTN(A); clinical training is a required part of the post, conducted as part of the South Yorkshire gastroenterology training programme. A four‑month rotating modular system covers core and sub‑specialty requirements, with a strict 50:50 split between clinical training and research time. Job PlanYou will work in blocks of either clinical training (specific modules) or research time. The academic job plan will be flexible and agreed with senior academic staff. On‑call RotaYou will join the resident on‑call rota at a 50% SpR commitment during the programme, including during research blocks, based at NGH. AuditThere is a bi‑monthly audit meeting to which you are expected to contribute periodically. AdministrationYou will undertake administrative work in support of the Department of Infection & Immunity and the Academic Unit of Gastroenterology, without detracting from clinical or research duties. SupportThe post is supported by excellent research, clinical and academic office facilities and secretarial support. MRCP full diploma or equivalent by the date of commencement of ST3 training post. MD, PhD (or equivalent) submitted or awarded. Hold or be benchmarked for an NTN in Gastroenterology. GMC full registration at the time of appointment and a current licence to practise. Completed core medical training sufficient for entry into specialty training grades. Experience in teaching undergraduate MBBS students and other research supervision. Evidence of innovation in teaching and understanding of current directions in undergraduate medical education. Experience of teaching clinical skills. Period of uninterrupted research experience. Commitment to further research in areas that fit with the strengths of the department and university. Knowledge of external grant funding bodies and application procedures. Strong track record of research productivity in peer‑reviewed publications. Strong track record of securing external research funding. Experience of undertaking clinical research. Management training. Desirable Criteria Skill in teaching organisation. Organisational and time management skills.
