Lecturer in Computing – Birmingham Department: Academic/Bath Spa University partnership (BSU) Location: Birmingham (On‑Site) Salary: £51,000 Contract: Full‑Time, Permanent (40 hours per week) Vision: Changing lives through education. The role We are currently seeking lecturers to teach across a range of undergraduate levels as part of our BSc (Hons) Computing programme. Because of our delivery model, you should be able to teach during weekdays, evenings and weekends. Visa: This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship. What you will be doing As a Lecturer in Computing at Global Banking School, you will deliver modules based around the three main themes of the programme: Technology, Software and Data. You will develop and deliver comprehensive course materials and undertake all aspects of learning, teaching and assessment of students. Responsibilities Plan, deliver and assess student work, ensuring learning outcomes are met. Develop, update and improve course materials as appropriate. Use a variety of learning and teaching methods/materials. Actively engage in staff development activities, peer observations, meetings and other administrative duties. Keep up to date with latest developments in your field and student support practices. Work towards defined objectives for student attendance, continuation, completion, satisfaction and progression. About you Hold a Master’s degree in a relevant subject area (PhD desirable). Have previous UK HE lecturing experience in the wider subject area. Demonstrate extensive knowledge of two or more of the following areas: programming and software development, web development, database systems, cloud computing, networking, cybersecurity, IoT, emerging technologies, business IT systems, IT management, AI and machine learning, operating systems, UI/UX. Have experience supervising student work and providing support and feedback. Have experience in accurate reporting and maintaining thorough student records. Work under pressure, plan and prioritise own workload to meet tight deadlines. Have excellent communication, interpersonal and team‑working skills. Work with diverse groups of people. Desirable Hold a Postgraduate Certificate of Academic Practice or equivalent teaching qualification (or commitment to enrol on a teaching programme during the probationary period and complete within three years) or Fellowship of HEA (or international equivalent). Have experience designing/developing academic or professional education programmes.
