An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our welcoming and proactive team as an assistant psychologist. The post will be based primarily on the children's ward at West Suffolk hospital working under the supervision of the principal clinical psychologist for paediatric psychology. The postholder will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary ward team of doctors, nurses, other psychologists, health play specialist, AHPs and non-registered staff as well as undertaking individual work, teaching, resource development and training. There will be opportunities to co-facilitate groups and workshops as well as direct work with young people and their families and carers, liaison with other agencies and education providers. Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis. Experience and knowledge Further post graduate training in relevant areas of professional psychology, mental health practice and/or research design and analysis. Experience working with children or families or working in medical settings Skills and abilities High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive. An understanding of the needs of people receiving hospital care and their families and an understanding of the principles of motivation enhancement therapy. An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to this context An understanding of psychology applied to health care. Experience using computers for databases or data-analysis, especially SPSS for Windows and Excel. An ability to interact effectively with staff from all disciplines. An ability to interact with people with mental health problems and/or disabilities. Ability to work independently, reliably and consistently with work agreed and managed at regular intervals. Ability to accept and use supervision appropriately and effectively.
