Teaching Assistant/Tutor – Campsfield IRC Mitie Cleaning & Hygiene Services is hiring a Teaching Assistant/Tutor – Campsfield IRC. About the Role Campsfield IRC is the UK's first all‑electric Immigration Removal Centre, providing custody services, welfare, regime and recreational activities. We are looking for respectful, diligent and caring colleagues to join our team. Key Responsibilities Promote and design educational activities in IT, delivering workshops that meet residents' needs and contractual requirements. Provide a safe, secure, stimulating, supportive and productive environment that encourages learning. Assess the ITT level of all learners, provide a short induction and ensure teaching is relevant and engaging. Develop and deliver core modular courses and the learning programme, supporting learners to achieve objectives. Promote e‑learning and further education opportunities in the classroom where appropriate. Maintain a safe, secure, positive and friendly learning environment; ensure tools and equipment are maintained and secured. Monitor attendance, retention and achievement figures; assist in developing strategies and procedures for improvement and value for money. Complete all documentation and administration in line with company policies and external agency requirements to keep accurate, compliant data. Advise on equipment and purchases necessary to meet contractual requirements and best practice. Support the Regimes department and other vocational courses as required. Essential Appropriate teaching/tutoring experience. In‑depth knowledge of vocational skills in the area of specialism. Previous teaching experience within a related subject. Desirable Experience delivering workshops and training. Experience within a custodial setting. Experience working with ESOL learners; patient and understanding attitude essential. Resident Care and Management Interact with residents, build rapport while maintaining professional distance. Be impartial, fair, assertive, consistent and confident. Treat residents with respect and encourage reciprocal respect. Listen carefully and pick up unspoken communication. Explain issues clearly and keep residents informed. Understand residents' needs and provide help. Show empathy, compassion and diffuse anger. Act upon signs of distress, self‑harm or anger. Encourage expression of concerns, responsibility and participation. Remain observant. Legal Requirements You must be eligible for CTC clearance, hold a valid British or EU passport with a share code, have lived and worked in the UK for at least three years without extended overseas travel, and have no criminal convictions or ongoing police investigations.
