Job Summary This is a replacement Consultant post. This post is split between designing and leading the implementation of transformation programmes as the Clinical Transformation Lead and providing clinical care within the Gastroenterology department. The clinical remit of the post-holder will be to work within the multi‑disciplinary team providing and further developing care for Gastroenterology with a focus on general gastroenterology, including IBD and nutrition. It is envisaged that the appointee will contribute to the existing strengths as well as developing his/her own specific complementary areas of expertise depending upon their interests, ability and experience. In addition, the individual will be required to play an active role in the general workload of the Care Group while having a significant commitment to teaching and training of junior staff. For the Transformation role they will work in partnership with Chiefs of Division, Clinical Directors, Transformation leads, General Manager and to develop the KCHs Transformation strategy, underpinning programmes of work and implementation credibility across the organisation. Main duties of the job All employees are expected to undertake work on any of the Trust's sites as required by the service. As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close co‑operation with, and support other clinical, medical professional and managerial colleagues in providing high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients. Integral to these responsibilities are the following: The provision of a first‑class clinical service Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty Sustaining and developing teaching and research in conjunction with King’s College London / KHP Undertaking all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's service plans Maintaining the confidence of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Care Group or the Trust Responsibilities 1. The appointed practitioner will normally participate in teaching medical students, post‑graduate doctors/dentists and other groups at King's College Hospital NHSFT and Kings College London (KCL) School of Medicine. All consultants are expected to be committed to teaching and to play their part in the delivery of the undergraduate curriculum, including planning, review and assessment of students. 2. Post‑graduate teaching and training of doctors/dentists, including acting as an educational supervisor, providing appraisal and support. The postholder will participate in teaching and training postgraduate doctors/dentists, with time for educational supervision normally job‑planned as a team. 3. Involvement in high‑quality research is strongly encouraged, supporting basic research, clinical trials, and collaborative projects across the NHS. The postholder will support research governance, assist with clinical trial setup, and engage in multidisciplinary research activity. 4. Clinical governance: contribute to and participate in the Care Group’s audit programme and quality improvement initiatives. Carry out administrative duties associated with patient care and maintain safeguards for health, safety and well‑being of staff, visitors and patients. 5. Study and annual leave: comply with continuing professional development requirements and coordinate cover for planned absences to ensure service continuity. Annual leave follows Trust guidelines: 32 days (34 after 7 years) plus bank holidays. 6. Safeguarding responsibilities: attend mandated safeguarding training, familiarize with reporting processes, and report any concerns appropriately. 7. Infection control: support infection control policies, comply with national and local procedures, and ensure adherence at all clinical areas. 8. Appraisal and job planning: complete annual appraisal within the NHS framework, participate in SPA activity, and align with the Trust’s performance review cycle. 9. Mentoring and coaching: develop internal coaching skills programmes to support staff development and senior consultant mentoring arrangements.
