Our teams are passionate about making a real impact, and we're proud to be at the forefront of the UK's sustainable transport revolution.About the roleThe Sustainability & Carbon Reporting Manager plays a vital role in upholding and advancing First Group's sustainability standards, with a focus on decarbonisation and environmental performance. This role leads the collection and consolidation of environmental data across Bus and Rail divisions, analyses trends, and communicates insights to stakeholders.Key responsibilities include external reporting, regulatory compliance (including GHG reporting), benchmarking, and setting ambitious carbon reduction targets. The role also involves identifying innovative practices from outside the sector and promoting continuous improvement.We're looking for a proactive, analytical communicator with experience in UK environmental compliance, who can thrive in a fast-paced team, engage stakeholders effectively, and represent the company in industry forums.ResponsibilitiesLead compliance with UK environmental regulations and manage Group-level sustainability reporting, including SECR, ESOS, and our annual Environmental Performance Report.Oversee non-financial ESG reporting for the Annual Report and respond to investor and benchmarking requests (e.g., TCFD, TPT, Sustainalytics, MSCI).Monitor emerging sustainability legislation and best practices, advising on implications and driving strategic responses.Support delivery of our carbon reduction targets and net-zero transition plans across Bus and Rail.Embed sustainability in procurement and value-chain processes to advance Scope 3 emissions goals.Minimum 6 years' experience in Sustainability and Carbon Management, ideally within large-scale change initiatives.Strong stakeholder engagement skills, combining technical understanding with effective communication.Experience delivering non-financial reporting for Annual Report & Accounts (e.g., GHG Protocol, Climate Transition Plans).Proven track record of delivering measurable sustainability/reporting outcomes.Proactive, solution-focused approach with a drive to identify and resolve challenges.Ability to manage multiple initiatives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.Strong analytical skills and experience using performance metrics to support strategic decision-making.Experience in sectors such as transportation, engineering, or other complex infrastructure environments.Demonstrated ability to develop and execute clear, actionable sustainability plans.Experience managing external consultants and service providers.We offer a range of benefits including health and wellbeing support, financial wellbeing discounts, discounted train travel, free bus pass, cycle-to-work scheme, holiday entitlement, pension scheme, and share purchase options.At First Bus, we prioritize physical and mental wellbeing through various health initiatives and confidential support services.
