Job Summary Applications are invited for an ST1-2 level clinical fellow rotation in Neurology and Stroke Medicine to start immediately. This post would be suitable for an ST1-2 level or more senior equivalent who has completed Foundation training or core medical training (or equivalent), and wishes to gain further experience in Neurology or Stroke, perhaps with a view to pursuing related ST3 training. The post holder will work a 1:12 full-shift resident on‑call rota shared between 8 stroke juniors and 4 neurology juniors. The rota is EWTD compliant with compensatory off days and flexible annual leave. Daytime duties in neurology will include covering the neurology in‑patients (10 beds), weekly outpatient clinics, and covering the programmed investigations unit including day case lumbar punctures. Daytime duties in stroke will include the care of in‑patients on the Hyperacute Stroke Unit (12 beds) and the Acute Stroke Unit (14 beds), TIA clinics and attending emergency calls for thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy. Main Duties Daily review of in‑patients and new referrals usually with the SpR and/or consultant Ward duties including practical procedures and MDT meetings Presenting cases at weekly meetings Outpatient clinics including TIA clinics Assessing ED patients for thrombolysis and mechanical thrombectomy About the Department Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country and a leading healthcare provider. The neurological wards include 10–15 beds and a programmed investigations unit. Super‑specialisations cover epilepsy, stroke, movement disorders, headache, multiple sclerosis, neuro‑rehabilitation, neuro‑muscular/peripheral nerve and MND. Neurosurgery interests include head injury, complex spine, skull base surgery, vascular and functional procedures. There is a Gamma Knife unit at St Barts Hospital. Qualifications & Experience Primary medical qualification recognised by the GMC and current Full Registration with the GMC Completed Foundation or core medical training (or equivalent) Desirable: MRCP Part 1 Familiarity with the GMC's Good Medical Practice and current ALS certification (desirable) Clinical Knowledge & Skills Knowledge of major principles of the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2006) Good clinical care and maintaining good medical practice Teaching and training, appraising and assessing Effective relationships with patients and colleagues Working with colleagues and applying professional integrity Probity and Health Language & Communication Demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics (GMC Good Medical Practice, paragraph 22) Attributes Understanding of the patient as the central focus of care Ability to prioritise tasks and information appropriately Ability to work effectively with others Effective communication skills with colleagues and patients Initiative and ability to deal effectively with pressure and/challenge Understanding of the principles of equality and diversity Additional Information Disclosure and Barring Service Check: The post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
