Senior Quantity Surveyor – Balfour Beatty plcWe are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead a small team of professionals and oversee measurement and valuation of civil engineering works, reconciling these to costs to deliver value for money while maintaining required standards and quality.Key ResponsibilitiesGovernanceMaintains a good knowledge of and adheres to Balfour Beatty’s GMCEs, BMS and other governance frameworks.Analytical Thinking & Decision MakingOrders information and systematically checks data.Maximises digital opportunities to improve efficiency.Cost EngineeringPrepares activity schedules, resource schedules and analyzes tender documents.Undertakes audits of cost to determine compliance with subcontract conditions.EstimatingCritically appraises, estimates and negotiates cost estimates with third parties.PlanningReviews complex contract programmes such as Time‑Location.Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes.Project ManagementMonitors and reports on project performance on main and subcontractor accounts.Analyzes commercial progress and reports to senior project staff.Manages commercial aspects with customers and stakeholders for designated areas.Advises on contract administration, issuing appropriate notices and certificates.ProcurementAdvises on appropriate procurement and tender routes.Compiles relevant tender documentation and information for enquiries.Prepares and maintains procurement programmes and helps develop the strategy.Prepares detailed tender enquiries including relevant documentation and information.Negotiates during the subcontract tender phase within delegated parameters.Commercial ManagementProactively manages change according to contract conditions.Prepares and reports on cost‑value reconciliations using earned value management.Analyzes rates and prices, assessing variations according to contract conditions.Manages customer and stakeholder relationships for designated responsibilities.Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required.Prepares forecasts of outturn cost and value.Development, Recruitment and RetentionMaintains personal development plan.Manages HR/People aspects for direct and indirect reports.Supports development of others through professional mentoring.Produces plans for team to achieve goals and aspirations.Supports recruitment of lower‑grade staff.Qualifications & ExperienceThe following qualifications are essentialBSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or a related award with relevant experience.Membership of RICS, ICES, CInstCES or a similar professional body (or working towards).Desirable QualitiesExcellent communication.Teamwork, role model, and leadership abilities.Achievement focus and business/customer awareness.Commitment to organisational aims and objectives.Understanding of customer needs.BenefitsSmart working with flexible start and finish times, up to 40% remote working where roles allow.25 days paid annual leave (pro‑rata).Family friendly policies: 28 weeks full pay maternity/adoption leave and 4 weeks full pay paternity/partner leave.Pension, share incentive plan, volunteering leave, recognition schemes and more.About the CompanyBalfour Beatty plc is a global infrastructure partner delivering transformative projects for the UK, Europe and beyond.
