Every year, our commitment to exceptional education attracts talented students from across the UK and the world. This growth is fuelled by inspirational academics, professionals who bring vision, passion, and expertise to their disciplines. Driven by our continued growth in student numbers and our commitment to delivering outstanding learning, teaching, and research opportunities for our students, we are expanding our academic community. As part of this growth, we are creating a number of key academic positions that will play an integral role in shaping our university’s next chapter. About the School of Engineering and Built Environment The School of Engineering and Built Environment is a vibrant and dynamic academic environment that welcomes ambitious and creative thinkers. As a member of our team, you will work alongside high‑calibre colleagues to deliver practical, accredited programmes that support student success and professional development. Our school boasts an impressive research portfolio, strong industry partnerships, and state‑of‑the‑art facilities, offering academics the opportunity to pursue impactful research and applied projects. We also support a thriving community of postgraduate research students, working across a wide range of subjects closely aligned with the expertise of our academic staff. We are proud to be a centre of excellence for the development of highly trained, sustainability‑led engineers who are equipped with the necessary skills to drive the country forward. In 1825 we opened England’s first Mechanics' Institute in Liverpool, teaching mechanics, arithmetic and engineering draftsmanship. In 1892 we made history again and opened England’s first Nautical College. Our Engineering disciplines have grown out of these landmark institutions, and we are one of the UK’s leading centres for mechanical, electrical and maritime engineering education. We have an outstanding reputation for producing world‑leading research and have business partners across the world. With exceptional employability outcomes for our undergraduate and postgraduate students and a strong global presence, our school offers academics the chance to shape the next generation of engineering and built environmental professionals while contributing to research and teaching that is recognised internationally. What we're looking for We are seeking a dedicated Teaching Fellow to join our team and help deliver an outstanding student experience, supporting modules across both mechanical and electrical programmes, including general physics, mathematics, and programming at Level 3, as well as applied mechanics; covering statics, structural integrity, dynamic systems, design, and simulation (FEA), at other levels as required. In this role, you will design and deliver high‑quality teaching materials, lead engaging lectures and practical sessions, and assess student learning across a range of programmes. You will play an active part in planning and developing modules, contributing to curriculum innovation, and ensuring our courses remain relevant and inspiring. As a Teaching Fellow, you will also engage in scholarship, research, and professional knowledge exchange activities that enrich your teaching and support the wider academic community. Administrative responsibilities will form part of your role, ensuring smooth delivery of programmes and a positive experience for every student. You will hold a postgraduate qualification (or equivalent experience) in a relevant discipline and bring proven experience of teaching at undergraduate level or delivering professional training. We are looking for someone who combines subject knowledge with a passion for teaching and a commitment to student success. You will understand the importance of creating work‑based learning opportunities and fostering employability skills, ensuring our graduates are ready to thrive in industry. What we offer This is a key moment to join a welcoming, ambitious, and research‑informed university community that places students at the heart of everything we do. Our staff are visible and present for our students and this all adds to the fantastic student experience of living and studying in such a vibrant city. We see our staff as very much part of this community and value their contribution to the success of LJMU, Liverpool and the wider northwest region. If you’re inspired by the idea of joining a growing university and bringing your expertise to a community where you can truly make a difference, we look forward to hearing from you.
