Band 7 Senior Support Pharmacist in General Medicine

Job Summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for proactive and dynamic individuals with vision, drive and enthusiasm to join the Pharmacy team as the Senior Support Pharmacist for General Medicine based at Queen Elizabeth Hospital at UHB Trust. If you are a motivated and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist with post-registration hospital experience of covering a range of specialties, or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge, and are ready for the next step in your career then this could be the job for you. The role is open to candidates who have completed at least 2-3 early year pharmacist rotations and have started the clinical diploma or who consistently meet the level expected of a post-registration foundation pharmacist within the RPS Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway. You will move into the full Senior Support Pharmacist for General Medicine role once you have completed the required competencies to demonstrate you are working at a senior support level. Applicants with 12 months post-registration hospital experience are encouraged to apply. All applicants will then be given the opportunity to progress onto the independent prescribing course. Main duties of the job You will deliver a high-quality specialist clinical pharmacy service, and there will be a strong emphasis on supporting you in developing leadership and mentoring skills to the next level. You will be introduced to core directorate activities - reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management activities, including review of PGDs and relevant policies. In addition, you will take on enhanced roles relating to education and training, such as developing training programmes and involvement with training of new doctors. You will have responsibility for the supervision of less experienced members of the team including junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists. You will be a highly motivated individual and a team player with well-developed communication skills and a desire to use your knowledge, skills and experience to improve patient care and influence healthcare professionals in the best use of medicines. You will join a team of clinical pharmacists who provide the on-call service with a back-up provided by the Specialist and Advanced Clinical Pharmacists. Person Specification Qualifications – Essential Vocational Master’s degree in pharmacy (or equivalent relevant qualification) Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Completion of first year of clinical diploma or NHSE/RPS Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway or equivalent, as evidenced by dated communication from HEI or signed‑off NQPP documentation.
