Do you want to make a lasting positive change to the environment? As a Technical author in the UK BAT team you can. Large Volume Inorganic Chemicals (LVIC) installations are required to use "Best Available Techniques" (BAT) to reduce emissions to air, water and land. The regime will use the BAT concept principles of a transparent, collaborative, data‑ and evidence‑led process that safeguards and builds on the current high levels of environmental protection. Central to this process will be the UK BAT Author. Responsibilities Draft BAT Conclusions, liaise with Technical Working Groups and present a final document suitable for publication as a new, UK‑wide, environmental standard for industry. Specialist knowledge and understanding of the LVIC industry. Good understanding of process engineering, environmental issues and UK environmental legislation and policy. Critically analyse technical arguments and data. Write technical documents and communicate effectively. Good project management skills and a drive to complete. Experience / Skills Required At least 5 years working experience with a solid understanding of environmental regulation in the LVIC industry. Expertise in the large volume inorganic chemicals industry. Knowledge of UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, in particular the IED and the Environmental Permitting Regulations. Collection and technical analysis of complex industrial data. Understanding of the implications of BAT Conclusions in permits, on industry and the environment. Strong verbal and written communication. Ability to build and maintain relationships. Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources to ensure timely and effective results. Responding flexibly to challenges and building consensus. Ability to work effectively with people from different backgrounds and cultures.
