Job overview The post-holder will be joining a small but supportive Therapist and TI team and the role involves both supporting the therapists and holding an independent appropriate caseload, working in both clinic and community settings for the assessment, prescription and provision of wheelchairs. NO AGENCIES PLEASE Main duties of the job The post-holder will hold a caseload of appropriate complexity to assess, recommend and handover wheelchairs and pressure management to clients of all ages with a wide variety of medical conditions. The work is varied and will involve working in a clinic environment, schools, home, care, and hospital settings, the role will also involve admin and stock control. The post-holder will work independently or jointly with another member of staff from an internal or external team e.g. engineers. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist the Technical Instructor will independently manage a designated caseload of patients defined as non-complex within a specified clinical area, providing assessment and interventions on behalf of the occupational therapist within predetermined guidelines. Patients identified as complex will be managed by a registered occupational therapist. Person specification Qualifications & Education Technical qualification e.g. NVQ Level III Diagnostic and Therapeutic or equivalent technical/work experience. Maths/English GCSE or equivalent (Sound general education). Associate Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists Knowledge & Experience Experience working in paid or voluntary employment within a rehabilitating role Basic understanding of o Relationship between illness/disability and social issues and their impact on functional ability. o Principles of occupational therapy clinical practices, procedures and risk assessment. o moving and handling principles and practice Basic appreciation of o The broad context of health and social care policy, risk assessment. o Clinical governance. o Eligibility criteria relevant to disability equipment. Basic knowledge of disability equipment, its use and application. Understanding of behaviour and conduct in practice. Experience of working with people who have cancer Knowledge of team dynamics Previous experience in NHS Experience of working with people with physical disability e.g. reduced mobility Skills & Abilities Organisation, time management, problem solving and prioritisation skills. Ability to work as part of a team.
