Night Porter – Edinburgh Hostel Night Porter required for an independent, sociable hostel in Edinburgh, working overnight to keep guests safe, comfortable, and the building running smoothly. About the role Title: Night Porter Location: Edinburgh city centre hostel Contract: Full-time night shifts (including some weekends and bank holidays) Typical hours: Between 11 pm and 7 am (exact rota to be discussed at interview) The Night Porter is the main point of contact for guests overnight, responsible for security, basic cleaning and ensuring everything is ready for the following day. Key responsibilities Welcome late arrivals, complete check‑ins and assist with check‑outs where needed. Act as the main contact for guest queries, noise issues and emergencies during the night, keeping a calm, friendly manner. Monitor access to the building, complete regular security walks and report any incidents or maintenance issues. Keep front‑of‑house, lounge, kitchen and common areas clean, tidy and presentable for the morning shift. Set up dining/breakfast or common spaces as required, including basic prep and layout. Complete simple administrative tasks such as logging incidents, updating handover notes and supporting night audits if required. What we’re looking for Previous experience in hospitality, customer service or security is an advantage, but a positive attitude and reliability are more important. Confident communicating with international guests and handling challenging situations professionally. Comfortable working alone at night, taking responsibility and following clear procedures. Good level of spoken English and eligibility to work in the UK.
