Mental Health Advisor (x2) – University of Plymouth Overview The University of Plymouth is recruiting two Mental Health Advisors to join its Student Wellbeing Services team. These roles involve delivering mental health support to students, coordinating crisis interventions, and contributing to proactive wellbeing initiatives. Advisors will work closely with staff, students, and external agencies to ensure timely support and effective risk management. Key Details Job Title: Mental Health Advisor (x2) Employer: University of Plymouth (via University of Plymouth Services Limited) Location: Plymouth, South West England, UK Salary: £39,906 – £46,049 per annum (pro rata) Contract Type: Part‑time (29.6 hours per week) – Position 1 Permanent, Position 2 Fixed‑term until July 2026 Hours: Part‑time (29.6 hours per week) Closing Date: 14 December 2025 Interview Dates: Week commencing 12 January 2026 Job Reference: B1003 Work Location: On‑site only Visa Sponsorship: Not available under Skilled Worker route Role Overview Mental Health Advisors provide direct support to students experiencing psychological distress, coordinate crisis management, and deliver proactive workshops. They act as representatives of Student Wellbeing Services, ensuring students and staff have access to timely advice and interventions. Key Responsibilities Coordinate support for vulnerable or crisis‑affected students with colleagues and external agencies. Deliver and contribute to proactive workshops for staff and students. Participate in student support and risk management meetings. Undertake assessments and provide professional advice on student mental health. Represent Student Wellbeing Services across the institution. Required Skills and Experience Essential Relevant professional qualification (e.g., Registered Mental Health Nurse, Social Worker, Occupational Therapist). Registration and professional standing with an appropriate mental health body. Substantial experience providing mental health advice and assessment to vulnerable adults. Experience delivering support services in demanding environments (HE/FE, NHS, Social Work, voluntary sector). Experience in crisis management and handling stressful or life‑threatening situations. Competence in assessing psychological distress and risk, including suicidal behaviour. Desirable Experience working within higher education student support services.
